The summer transfer window is next month, and Tottenham Hotspur has its plan heading into the market for players that need to exit.
Football Insider reports that the north London club will do whatever it takes to get rid of players the manager Antonio Conte doesn’t want this summer. Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele, and Steven Bergwijn are at the top of the list regarding players they want to offload.
Spurs insider John Wenham into detail discussing the thought process of Tottenham being willing to take a loss and grabbing whatever they can get from certain players rather than holding out for a specific fee.
“This has been something that has been happening since at least last summer,” Wenham said. “For example, we probably could have got more money for Sissoko, but we just needed him gone, so we took what we could get.”
“We aren’t going to make our money back on these players, so lets just get them gone and see how much we can bring in. I would rather we got rid of the players than hang on for the right deal to sell them. We should be doing whatever it takes to get players like Ndombele gone.”
Some players have improved their value, like Giovani Lo Celso, and might get something closer to what they initially paid since a couple of La Liga clubs are keen on the Argentine.
However, other players like Tanguy Ndombele will need to accept whatever fee to cut their losses permanently and not need to secure another loan deal.
Oh please. This guy steals a living as a professional footballer. A wall has a better first touch. Look at his output in a Spurs shirt. 141 league appearances 3 goals. Nowhere near good enough. The transfer fee that Watford paid tells you all you need to know. It baffles me that the guy has 71 caps in an era where France have won the Euros and a World Cup. Will always remember the Oh Moussa Sissoko resounding around THS when he scored in succesive home games under Jose though.
Well, say you do not understand and stop blaming the point. I do not know about walker being the best at right back. Under Poch we played so high, Walker and Trippier after him were often standing on the opposition 18 yards box and very few crosses went into the box especially form Walker who still cannot cross a ball above waist height. What Walker had is pace? So we keep running up and down the wing, when we get countered and it sat and watch us give away leads, concede free kicks on toll. So let me repeat player use in the right system will succeed. Simeone known only to him wanted Trippier to add to his system. There goes that word system again. We played a system against Liverpool and we look a total different team. Watch closer
Winks was kept as he’s young enough to retain transfer value I suspect. If Sissoko was ever important to us it will have been because we had nobody else. He was ok, and perhaps if he had a better partner than Winks he might have shown more, who knows. The question you have to ask yourself is if he’s that good why does he leave us to join a relegation team, and when he does they still go down? 🤔
😂
Probably , but I just want him out, there should be a review of players contracts which should include a misconduct rule that allows clubs to reduce pay or even dismiss for serious breaches of contract, they have too much power.
Agreed , I just added a few more.
One thing he can’t do at Watford is hit Row Z with his shots cos they haven’t got one.
I googled “worst signings ever” and Tanguy didn’t make the Top 30 so it just seems bad because Levy is just a cheapskate.
The Soldado deal was 13m up front with another 13 in add-ons IIRC. Of course we don’t know what was paid in total. One can only hope there’s something similar in the Ndombele transfer. It would make sense to ship him back permanently to Lyon. Cancel out whatever payments are left. Levy will have to take a loss in any case. If he doesn’t get that, he’s even dafter than I imagined
harsh on sissoko. Took him a year to get into it, but he did it and became very important. Maybe you guys have a short memory. I wish we had him in the first half of this season, but instead we kept winks 🙂
This guy saying we didn’t get enough for Sissoko? On what basis? A player seemingly only wanted by Watford, an overrated lump who might just look decent in The Championship…
Levy isn’t shrewd, he’s just risk averse to the point of dysfunction…
An expensive Adel Taraabt, skilful, talented but mentally not up to the job of a professional sportsperson. Shocking…
Doesn’t that have to be mutually agreed with the player? If he takes the rest of his contract paid up then finds another club,he’s quids in and can afford to lower his demands.Or he digs his heels in and stays.Either way he wins and Levy loses.
Much of this depends on what these players stand us in at. I don’t believe that the club have paid out the total values of these deals yet. There’s will be stage payments and some payments based on the player’s achievements. I have no idea why these factoids aren’t published, but my suspicion is that the hyperbole over these transfers is seen to help with the hype and marketing of the game. Certainly helps Levy look like he’s spent more than he actually has.
However, I can’t see Levy taking much of a loss on any of these deals so it’s going to be like pulling teeth if he decides to hardball. This could, as usual mean that other deals will be held up, it’s going to be a long summer…
Levy won’t be sacked. The only viable option for us is the club being sold
There are many, yet Ndombele tops them all
He’s so shrewd he decided Fernandes, Dias and Skriniar were too expensive
Cancel his contract.
Hitchin wasn’t the only one, there have been far too many poor signings in recent years for it to be just bad luck.
I think Sissoko, Adebayor, Chiriches, N’cluedo… I can go on.
Agree bergy has loads of potential but hard for him to get in the team, however we need back up for sonny so should try to keep him.
lazy, bad attitude, whoever sanctioned that purchase needs sacking..
Kyle Walker was arguably the top right back in the league and part of the best defense at the time. Not sure what the point made is but he is now in a side that have invested in quality everywhere. Spurs under Levy don’t do that.
Can’t. He’s abysmal on so many fronts. Tragic waste of money from the shrewd Chairman we are so lucky to have.
Ndombele is the worst signing in the history of football. Change my mind
It’s just another “report”, among many. I don’t think anyone wants to get rid of Bergwijn. If anything he’s the one who wants out for regular first team football
Nope Dexter you are not wrong, your comment is exactly what will happen.
The total fee for Gio was 40m. Obviously we’re not getting that
I don’t blame you after 22 years and counting.
Shame to lose Bergy, he should be given more minutes when Sonny is clearly having an off day – I like him as a super-sub, not near the top of my list of players that need to go.
The other two can do one. Along with Royal and Winks.
The problem with swapping managers so often is the incoming manager often finds players unsuited to his system, this was the case with Conte. It’s up to the board aka the mini Putin, to sort this out properly this summer. Shift the square pegs and bring in round ones, or expect more failure and Conte to walk. Time for Levy to put his bean counter away, take the losses like a man, do the right thing and back his manager.
The dictator sort.
Correct.
Your take is spot on with all 3 players. Locelso plays in a 433 system with Argentina deep lying mid given the freedom to do what ever he wants. Paredas and DePaul Makes a big difference to his game. The fact we do not have a creative mid, we are asking Tanguy who is also a holding mid to play further up the pitch. His natural talent fosters him joining the attack, but he is not a creative mid. Bergwjin is a legitimate winger from either side in a 433 or what attacking setup outside of 343 which all our players are suffering under except for Dier and Ben Davies hiding in the numbers. I see folks out the gate rigurating “they Not Good enough nonsense”. I use two players to show how systems can make players .Kyle Walker while at Spurs always chasing the ball more often than not the offensive player ends up in our box before he catches up. Pep put him behind the ball. I do not see ManCity right side been broken down. That is a system, Walker did not all of sudden became a better defender skill wise, he was used to maximize what he has, pace, and can give you some offense on the overlap.
Pogba, with France, he has Konte to do the dirty work, so he plays in the middle of midfield and let his skillet do the work. Yes, they love him in France. “The Insider” giving his personal opinion and labeling it as some source material out of the office of Paratici and Conte. This guy knows as much about the affairs at Spurs as I do sitting in my basement in the US.
For sure. The biggest joke of all is this THST nonsense. What kind of corporate governance allows the chairman of a company to pay himself the highest wages and remain entrenched whilst achieving minimal success in its industry? Utterly useless.
He also gets the big ones wrong far too often. Incompetent football person making decisions.
Every team makes mistakes and some signings don’t pan out. Just like with investments, you cut your losses and move on. Only Levy doesn’t understand this.
I think you might be spot on! Critical window for us but I can’t see Levy altering the sell-before-buy mantra that has screwed us for years.
I hope you are right but I just can’t see Levy doing the necessary.
I haven’t seen one quote saying LoCelso is revered in Argentina, although there is certainly interest in Spain for the player.
No we haven’t bought what we thought was on the tin with these players, but it’s not so much of a gamble if due diligence is followed. This is where Hitchens failed miserably and it’s a scandal he remained with us until very recently.
The players that are mentioned 1 Ndombele = £55 m
2 Lo Celso = 27m 3 Bergwin = 26 m .
Allowing for the obvious flawed performer in Ndombele , who in all honesty still looks a magical player at his very best , the other 2 seem very saleable to me .
All three established internationals , who have not shown that class in the Premier League , but cannot be dismissed as poor players .
In fact , with Lo Celso and Bergwin , actually revered in their own countries , so I cannot see us not selling them for less than we paid .
Ndombele the enigma , another time another place and he could have set the world alight , his time at Spurs highlighted the inability in his head to cope with high octane pressure .
I believe if there was a realistic price on his head , he may still prove some of his doubters wrong , the football community still needs to see the skills he occasionally provides .
All in all , they haven’t brought what we’d hoped but surely that is part of the gamble you take when we purchase .
That’s why you place your faith in the one man – and right now that man is CONTE. Back him unquestionably until he fails , surely that’s why we employed him ????
N’Lardarse will be the tough one to shift. He’s not worth a fraction of what we paid for him outright or his crazy wages. Levy must have had a brain fart the day he sanctioned 200k a week for an untested player with previous attitude problems. When you consider baldy paid Eriksen a stingy 70k a week for being a world class AM it beggars belief. This must be the greatest of Levy and Hitchens huge catalogue of failures.
Levy can’t afford to mess about this window. Conte was wise to be cautious and only sign an 18 month contract because he obviously didn’t trust the shifty one. Now he’s in a position to walk if he doesn’t get the backing, and that will leave the little parasite up the creek without a paddle. Not only will the entire Spurs fanbase come down on his little shiny head, but he will struggle mightily to find anyone else to take the job.
Levy has dug a hole so deep for himself he may never get out.
But “how do we solve a problem like Maria”
He is showing mixed form back in France so it is not only accepting a lowball offer it is who is going to buy him.
He is fatally flawed no team can take a punt his fee and wages would be a bridge too far and teams that could afford him wouldn’t touch him with a barge pole.
I honestly cannot see a good outcome for this piece of work
It seems to me that our best chance of offloading him (Poch at PSG) has gone so I cannot see any option other than the useless turd coming back and rotting at THFC.
If any poster has info or even better ideas please post away this situation is depressing me.
Mr Wenham you are looking at this incorrectly.
All the players you mention could command a reasonable fee considering prices dropped with the empty stadiums.
THFC should get reasonable buck for Lo No Sho & Reguillon & Wee Stevie – no problem if you accept current market prices.
So far so good.
more…………..
Unless Daniel drastically changes his MO, this is not going to happen. A long long history tells us that Levy will almost only take a loss on players when they’re in the final year and refusing to sign a new contract. These aforementioned players have circa three years left on their contracts, and they cost the club a lot of escudos.
We go on the ENIC merry-go-round of over-pricing players who don’t work for us, refuse offer after offer, and ultimately keep players on the books, and continue to pay their wages for contributing net zero to the team.
I may be wrong, but I’ll be watching this space come July.
