Tottenham’s technical performance director Steve Hitchen has recommended Graham Potter to Daniel Levy as the club’s next manager.
Spurs are on the hunt for a new permanent boss after they fired Jose Mourinho and several names have been linked to the Job.
This must be a tough time for Levy who threw caution to the wind and made Mourinho the club’s last manager hoping the Portuguese would help them end their trophy drought.
That hasn’t worked and he is back looking for a new manager once again.
Spurs have been linked with a move for the likes of Brendan Rodgers and Rafa Benitez but it seems they might go for a less successful option.
Mail Sport’s Ian Ladyman says the Lilywhites might have to go for a manager that isn’t so reputable and build from there instead of hiring for quick success.
He then reveals that Hitchen believes Potter is the right man for the job.
Potter has been doing some splendid work at Brighton and he has turned them into a team that plays entertaining football and creates many chances.
If he worked at a bigger club and had better players, there is every chance that his team would challenge for silverware.
Nevertheless, he has won no trophy in England and he still manages a Brighton side that is closer to the relegation zone than to the top of the league table.
That’s the idea yeah.
It makes me grimace!
Hahahahahha
I read that as ‘gurn’
Whenever the wheels come off the football bus, you can be sure it’s Levy at the wheel…
Potter would see this as a progression so could see it happening. Another project like the one Poch took on. How did that end up? Levy out.
No interest in what Hitchen thinks, however I do like Potter, he is doing an impressive job at Brighton with limited resources yet playing with style. I think he’s on a six year contract as he is so highly thought of there and at his previous clubs.
I certainly wouldn’t say no now that Rodgers is probably out of the running, and he’s got a very refreshing attitude and method towards the game which could well work here too.
Steve Hitchen Recommends ….
A Partridge-esque parody show – right there !
I think we have very few options for our next manager, anyone very highly rated will have been alienated and/or have better ‘projects’ being offered to them.
So Potter is the kind of profile we are looking at I’m afraid. Unless Levy breaks the bank for Rogers…
A few years ago I saw his side Ostersund take on Woolwich at their place, I was invited and so obviously rooting for our Swedish friends! They looked decent I have to say, individually lacked the quality to see off Arsenal but it was 2-1 to Woolwich Wanderers on the night and more on aggregate,
Thing is, Ostesund were a small club even within Sweden and for them to do what they did under Potter was pretty remarkable. He’s looked decent in the Premiership I guess with fairly limited resources at Swansea and then Brighton.
He fits the bill for Levy, will be grateful to be given the chance to manage such massive club and forever indebted to the Baldy. However, do too well and he’ll find himself undermined eventually, just like Poch having no signings for 12 months etc etc…
ha ha .
Just looks like a double glazing salesman to me ,he probably was .
Many things to sort out at our club but scouting is high up the list.
I have heard him called online not Hitchen but Hitchout.
Hitchen’s very name makes me grin
We could do worse. He’d feel so humbled Levy would have him wrapped around his little finger.
Pottertino! I could take this. He has more in his CV than Parker and has a similar mindset to the world champion crop circle maker, in that he likes playing attacking football (what is not to like?). I just cannot see Spurs getting a top box office manager for the foreseeable future, not until we start banging on that top 4 door again. Managers last on average 18 months, so why not the wizard that is Potter?
I don’t think he is a serious contender but there is a lot to like about his Brighton side. They are defensively sound and play football that is easy on the eye (we made them look like Barca). With a 20 goal a season striker they would be a lot higher up the league.
He seems an intelligent thoughtful coach but probably not box office enough for a big six team.
Probably wouldn’t go down well with the big heads in the team, which might be a reason to appoint him.
If Hitchen really thinks Potter is the answer, I would swerve the guy. Then again, I would generally have trouble trusting a guy who hates his job to do said job well.
