Report – Mourinho’s Tottenham job is safe for now

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham hired Jose Mourinho as their manager because they wanted to start winning trophies and to play in the Champions League consistently.

The Special One is a specialist at that, and his record speaks for itself.

He joined Spurs before the end of last season and couldn’t deliver Champions League football.

But he helped them move from closer to the foot of the league table to finish the last campaign in a Europa League spot.

After being backed somewhat in the summer transfer window, the club will expect a trophy and a return to the top four at the end of this season.

Spurs are falling away in the top four race and have just been eliminated from the FA Cup.

They now have to win the Europa League or end the campaign in better shape to secure Champions League football.

During their current poor run of form, there have been calls for them to axe Mourinho, a decision that would be welcomed by some Spurs fans.

However, Mirror Football claims that the former Inter Milan managers job is safe for now.

The club isn’t thinking about firing him, at least until the end of the season and they are confident that things will get better.

Now we can afford to we WILL invest in the team. A winning team with a valuable squad plus our infrastructure will be far more attractive to the future money people. We won’t be up for sale for ages which doesn’t bother me at all. We were about to spend you know. Shame about all this. 1 cup in 20 years at the old lane. How many cups will there be in 20 years at the new lane? Much much I reckon. The dark lean times are behind us now man. We’re right up there in the big dog kennels. Just settling in. The past is where it is.

Tappa,

Please stop attacking people.

Your boy Levy took out ALL the debt in THFC’s name.

I warned readers endlessly this would happen.

One thing is for sure. With Levy in you’re getting minimal investment in the team and a business structure that favours profit first.

Whoever we get, it can’t be worse than this. It literally can’t. No other owner would have 1 cup in 20 years at a club like Spurs.

Right. Levys gone. Now what? Borrow money and spend it all on players? Try sign neymar? Cancel all events other than football at the lane? Stop selling tin pot cup merch? Stop selling them fings wiv players faces on them? Shorten the length of the bar? Cancel all cheese (no cheese room sadly) stop singing 🎼 we’re the paaaaaark lane.. at the new place. What?

I don’t believe it’s entirely the fault of our players.”

I think history has shown that it is, for a large part, the fault of the players. They are losers. No manager – Pochettino or Jose – can turn losers into winners.

Regarding “Tottenham hired Jose Mourinho as their manager because they wanted to start winning trophies and to play in the Champions League consistently. The Special One is a specialist at that, and his record speaks for itself.”

He’s only a specialist at clubs with a very different business model to Spurs, so from my perspective, his record speaks of situations other than his current one. He has, with us, taken on a job quite different to any other he’s been successful at. He is now, I’d argue, a neophyte. He has much to learn, and it shows. I don’t believe it’s entirely the fault of our players.

The very best of luck to him.

No manager will succeed until Levy goes.

That is a fact.
