Report: Antonio Conte not sold on Pierluigi Gollini; interested in West Brom goalkeeper

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is out of a contract when his deal expires in June, and the 35-year-old can begin talks with any club over a pre-contract that kicks in next season.

Over the summer, Spurs did bring in Pierluigi Gollini, but according to talkSPORT, manager Antonio Conte isn’t convinced by the 26-year-old who arrived on loan from Atalanta.

“I know Antonio Conte isn’t convinced by Pierluigi Gollini – the goalkeeper who they signed from Atalanta in the summer. I don’t think they will be taking up the option to make that permanent,” talkSPORT correspondent Alex Crook stated.

Conte recently stated that he’s not worried about the contract talks between Tottenham and Lloris. The Italian tactician appears to want to hold onto the France international despite his age.

Furthermore, the English media outlet states that Tottenham is among the clubs eyeing West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, whose deal is also up in six months. However, Spurs aren’t the only ones showing interest in the Championship player as he reportedly has other Premier League suitors.

“I’m hearing Tottenham are joining the likes of Newcastle, Southampton, and West Ham in showing a definite interest in Sam Johnstone,” Crook said.

Hugo Lloris is out of contract himself in the summer, he hasn’t agreed a new one, and as of January 1st, he can sign a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs. I am told Antonio Conte does want to keep hold of Hugo Lloris, but it would be foolhardy not to look for alternative options.”

The January transfer window is now open, and Tottenham could speak with Johnstone and secure a pre-contract agreement for next season.

My mate is also an Albion season ticket holder and loves Johnstone. He hates Ismael though. I haven’t been too impressed with Goal-lini, but he played well with Cuti at Atalanta so I’d like to see those guys together before rendering judgment.

My boss is a West Brom season ticket holder and is quite scathing of Johnstone which doesn’t fill me with confidence that he’d be a patch on Hugo. Big gloves to fill for sure!
