Pundit gives an opinion on Tanguy Ndombele future – is he right?

By Bruce Grove -

Tanguy Ndombele might have to be sold this summer to make room for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, reckons Kevin Phillips.

The Frenchman has struggled to convince Jose Mourinho that he can play for him, while the Portuguese manager is sure that Hojbjerg will thrive in his team.

The Dane is close to joining Spurs after they had a bid for him accepted by Southampton.

He will join them as a player who is well-liked by Mourinho and Philips reckons that it will mean that one midfielder will have to be given up and that should be Ndombele.

The Frenchman has been linked with moves away from Spurs in this transfer window despite only joining them last summer.

The club wants to give him another season to prove himself, however, he might just be sacrificed when Spurs complete the signing of Hojbjerg and that is exactly what Philips is thinking and he related that to Football Insider.

He said: “I would think that there will be at least one midfielder leaving.

“You need a decent squad in the Premier League but it is difficult to keep everyone on side. If he comes in somebody would leave.

“I have said that Ndombele might come good this year but reading between the lines he could be the one that is sacrificed and moved on, even though he has only been there a short period.

“Mourinho clearly likes Hojbjerg, he has been pursuing him for a while, so once he gets him through the door you would expect him to play a huge part in Tottenham’s season next year and someone will have to drop out.”

Is Phillips right? Should Tottenham sell Ndombele now that Hojbjerg is set to sign?

He’ll sort his nut out Steve and come good. Ability wise you can’t compare the two. Time will sort this out. He’ll have a good preseason and come back ready. 🌚

I think Ndombenchy will be moved on mate…. Moussa Dembele was great for us in that CDM anchor role. He bossed it. Tackled, intercepted, outmuscled, generally bossed everyone front of our defence. He then had the ability to carry the ball, take it pass people with ease, and then find a good pass forward….. Ndombenchy was brought in for this role… Now we have Pierre who will be first choice anchor.. Sometimes maureen plays with two anchors so Sissoko or Tanguy would be alongside… Sooner he’s gone the better in my opinion.. When young Japh is playing more and better on 15k a week, then its scandelous that fat boy is earning 200k a week to have a frontline seat to watch all the matches.

And don’t forget FAT! The reason why no top club never came for him, and why he was rejected alot before Lyon.

Sissoko still struggles to actually play football at times though 😆 Alot of purists won’t like him. But the man is usually ready for war. Like a marauding tank. I love him, he worked hard to get where he is.

Completely agree with you. I think NDumbele is mentally and physically weak. Sissoko had to endure a hellish 2 or so years but he came through and has been much better and stronger as a result.

😆 Gotta love football its the most opinionated sport… I have to agree with Phillips.. They are different players but both are central midfielders… Ndombele was supposed to be the ‘all round’ player. Box to box midfielder according to his last coach he apparently has an engine. Can boss the middle, defend well, wins the ball often and quick on the counter can carry it forward.. He only needed to add goals to his game. Press resistant he never loses the ball…. Touted and predicted as the signing of the season… Flop of the season more like.. Sooner hes gone the better… I would pick sissoko over him every day of the week.

They are asked to say things to create content, being an ex player talking about club you have no more knowledge of the inner workings of is of no use to anyone…

Yes, I think that’s more like the plan.

You might as well say Harry Kane will have to leave if we sign another striker. Hojbjerg is being bought to win the ball and let Tanguy and Lo Celso do the fancy stuff.

Can’t see Ndombele being jettisoned just yet. I expect him to be given time to pull up his socks. Long term I think Sissoko will be the one to make way

Nah, Phillips is a kernob- keep the man another season with him and Celso in front of PEH – would be formidable

Complete nonsense. N’Dombele and Hjojberg are not comparable players, they play in different positions. Phillips is an idiot like Bent and quoting these ex-players is an utter waste of time.

Bruce, Bruce. Bruce! Phillips is not a pundit of note. His opinion and 2 pounds will buy you a newspaper. Better you express your own opinion than to quote Phillips.
