Pundit claims Tottenham youngsters are the future but need to leave

By Bruce Grove -

Former Tottenham number one, Paul Robinson, has revealed that he believes it will be best for Oliver Skipp to go out on loan and get regular first-team action.

The young midfielder has been on the cusp of regular senior team football for a long time now, and he even signed a new four-year deal at the club which showed just how good they consider him to be.

However, he isn’t getting closer to consistent first-team action at Tottenham as they continue to sign established big-name stars.

The Lilywhites completed the signing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg earlier today from Southampton and the Dane’s arrival will push Skipp further down the pecking order at the club, according to Robinson.

He agreed that he is a star of the future, but he is at a stage in his career that he will need to play more games regularly.

When asked by Football Insider if a loan move was the best course of action for the teenager this year, Robinson said: “Skipp needs to play.

“He is of an age now, like Troy Parrott, where he has travelled enough with the squad, he has been on the bench enough.

“The next stage of his development is a decent loan move but it has to be to the right club. It cannot just be a loan for the sake of it. He needs to go on loan to a bottom half Premier League side where he will play week in, week out.

“It would be a valuable experience. Skipp and Parrott are clearly a big part of the future at Spurs but now is the time for them to go out on loan.”
