Pundit calls Bale a boost to Tottenham but not enough of one to win the title

By Bruce Grove -

Pundit Alan Smith has admitted that adding Gareth Bale to their team has made Tottenham a stronger side, but he isn’t convinced that the Welshman will make them title contenders overnight.

Spurs have been waiting to win their first trophy since 2008 and it seems that this season might be the time that happens.

It is easy to understand the huge confidence at Spurs right now, they are managed by one of the best coaches when it comes to winning trophies, they have also had a fine transfer window, signing the likes of Bale, Matt Doherty and Sergio Reguilon.

In all honesty, Spurs has one of the strongest teams in the league this season and it is not inconceivable that they may eventually win the Premier League.

However, Smith writing in his column in Standard Sports reckons that Bale will be an impactful signing, but he will not make Tottenham one of the title favourites just yet.

He instead backed them to enter the top four and to also end their wait for a new trophy.

An Excerpt from his column reads: “To be fair, positive reactions all round aren’t suddenly going to make Spurs title contenders, but they should improve standards and help in the quest for long-overdue silverware and a top-four place.

“It feels like a long time since Spurs thrashed Manchester United 6-1. But if Bale makes the matchday squad on Sunday, there’ll be an extra quiver of excitement in that dressing room that gets everyone going against West Ham.”

Long may it continue I agree, but 60m on 5 players is not very much these days…

Which begs the question, was more money always available? Four years of Champions League football and a run to the final can’t have hurt the coffers. What’s he been doing with it alll? Obviously shoving it under the mattress…

By the way, just to help put Levy’s recent spending into perspective; Timo Werner cost more than our entire summer transfer window layout…

Bale is the one for me, the other transfers were needed in this positions as first choices or competition and cover but Bale brings something else. Like Klinsmann did, big time player. For some reason we sign so few of them… VDV was the last one.

Nothing in that article by boring Alan.
I don’t know where all this talk of winning the league is coming from – not Spurs fans for sure, the media I suppose.
For me I will be happy with 2 pots and 3rd.

Without Bale it might still be sticky, with the Welsh Wizard I predict that top 4 should be on the cards. He’ll make 0-0 games 1-0 if you bring him on to turn a game. He will be crucial if we are to improve dramatically…

Levy’s spent just over 60m and done four permanent transfers and two loans. To put it into context Chelsea have spent over 211m on 5 permanent deals. That’s close to four times as much as us this window.

Pleased to see stuff done and Bale is the one that seriously brings in real quality. However, this isn’t really anywhere to what the teams around us are spending and have spent over the last four seasons. I’m optimistic but Levy will needs to do far more than this long term, if he wants us to compete long term…

The New Magnificent Seven or Mag7.2, lets see how they roll. Didn’t workout last time but looks more exciting this time. Levy surely knew this was a once in a life time opportunity to buy good players at much lower prices than they would of been if CV19 hadn’t killed off the game like it did. Good luck to him, onwards and upwards. COYFS!!

His method was to build the best training ground/stadium in the world and all will follow. It worked (though it took longer than it should’ve) anyway all done now. Strong forward movements. Levy is the hero for getting it all done then bringing in José. And Chris Powell🌚

Levy played a fkin blinder. He has done since the new lane. His plans coming together.

He’ll run the last year down at Barcodes and then drop into the Championship I suspect. Either that or China…

Quite a collection of Welsh boys in at Spurs these days. Never a bad thing, Cliff Jones set the standard Bale brought it back first time round. We needed a younger one in this window, think Jose might have preferred a more established player but it’s reasonable to expect younger ones too.

I think Levy sniffed a Covid 19 sponsored bargain window and acted. we were all saying it ourselves – good investors buy when the market takes a dip. He’s done his bit to find the cash from somewhere, despite the virus hitting our revenue hard.

A very pleasant change and long may it continue.

There’s no ‘s’ in Adam, just as there isn’t in 2nd rate agricultural clod hopping journeyman.

Very good transfer window and whatever Mou put in Levy’s tea worked wonders. Hopefully our little chairman will get rewarded with tangible success that convinces him that his previous method was the wrong one. I see no reason now why we can’t seriously push on and get some silverware in the cabinet, that will be rewarded with a greater fanbase, bigger sponsors etc. and ENIC will make more money. That was always the way to do it as some of us have been saying for many long years. You get what you pay for in life and you have to invest to accumulate. Did somebody put up that stadium logo “To Dare is to Do” inside Levy’s office?
I have no complaints about Levy or our transfer business this summer. But the real hero is Mou. I wonder if his contract with the club included a clause about being properly supported in the transfer market?

Yep Jose is the man to thank for “persuading” Levy to act like he’s actually got some ambition for once. I reckon he got it put into the contract. Lots of credit to the wee baldy for finally coming round in his ways. Perhaps he’s been reading this blog?

Surprised me it’s come so fast for Rodon , but he has quickly adapted to first team football and now international, he can only progress if he’s given time, but pleased for him.

We don’t need one.

Ask yourself, who is Liverpool’ playmaker?

Who replaced Eriksen? And if we have two players for each position who are the two playmakers? I thought we might have got Cantwell or Brooks.

Spurs have got their man…

Swansea City defender Joe Rodon has completed a move to Tottenham for an undisclosed fee.

The Welsh international has signed a contract until 2025 and will wear the number 14 shirt.

We understand the fee is an initial £11m, rising to a potential £15m.

It has been rather amazing i must confess ,the squad seems balanced and more importantly very happy and up for winning for each other.
The next 4 games are all winnable if we do alright will then will be primed for the tough patch after and take them all out….
Thanks to the Bank of England for a great deal on that loan.:)

Apparently we need the International Transfer Clearance to go through to be able to register the player. Wales being an overseas country and all.

So we literally got someone in at every single position we were weak. I don’t think there has ever been a transfer window where we have done this before.

Kudos to Levy and Jose here. That’s a great effort! 👏👏

Deal sheet must have been signed before 5pm. Bournemouth also in for CCV – another deal sheet. Both deals must have final paperwork submitted by 7pm.
