“Protect him at all costs” These fans hail Tottenham star after Villa win

By Bruce Grove -

Lucas Moura was one of the key players as Tottenham earned a 2-0 win over Aston Villa yesterday to end a poor run of form.

The Lilywhites were beaten by Arsenal last week and got dumped out of the Europa League on Thursday.

Villa has had a good season and posed another serious threat to Spurs, but they got all the points against Dean Smith’s men.

Goals from Carlos Vinicius and Harry Kane were enough to give Tottenham the win, however, Moura was involved in most of the great things that happened including supplying the assist for the initial goal.

After the game, the Brazilian recorded a video thanking the fans for their support and also admitted that it was a tough week for them.

He added that he was happy that they did well and got a win and their intention now is to keep going this way and to keep performing well.

Spurs posted the video on their Twitter account, here are some reactions:

Incidentally, I think we might win the final but I don’t expect top four. Can’t rule the latter out altogether of course when we are only 3 points behind Chelsea in fourth. However, our current position owes quite a lot to the points we we were getting in the first half of this season and we may have to approximate that form to succeed, which I think is probably unlikely. However, you never know and it has been a strange season and, unlike us, Chelsea are competing on three fronts with the difficulties that can present.

It occurred to me that if there is tension between Jose and the bald one (allegedly over Dele), that our manager may want to prove a point by winning the Carabao Cup and getting top four (ie mission accomplished) before telling our supremo to stuff his (manager’s) job where the sun don’t shine!

Actually, we won the same number as the three combined, eleven.

On the previous blog where I have pointed out Spurs’ successes in the 6 major competitions between 1959 and 1984 (second only to Liverpool and winning almost twice as many trophies as anyone else!) I think I am correct in saying(but I have just worked it out quickly in my head) that during this 25 year period we won more trophies than Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham combined. I saw Bruce Grove was contributing and I was partially refuting his statement previously that we’ve never been a regular trophy winner.

Villa were not a serious threat to us.Their form indicated that without Grealish they wouldn’t trouble us and so it proved. However ours was a very workmanlike performance that didn’t necessarily point to an upturn in fortunes.

The remaining games will tell us a lot about our potential to improve and also about the players’ attitude. If levy is man nough to make the required transactions there could be big changes in store for THFC.However I for one won’t be holding my breath.

He has shown a desire and commitment that puts many to shame in that squad. He is one of the best French acquisitions we have made. I believe that playing him centrally behind Son, Kane, and Bale is for me the best formation upfront. I think that Toby and Rodon are the best CB pairing. Hoijberg and Ndombele probably the best combo in the middle and Requilion and Tanganga as wingbacks. Lamela and Lo Celso as subs in the second half. Now we have just one game a week let’s keep the starting eleven the same so they can create some cohesion as a unit, and dare I say it, team spirit. No more Dier, Winks, Davies, Sissoko, Aurier, or Ali as a starting player if injuries permit.
