Pochettino Turns Down Benfica, now Monaco, our old gaffer is playing the long game

By The Boy -

It’s easy to overlook that fact that in the aftermath of the embarrassment and a humiliation of being asked to clear out his locker by Daniel Levy that Mauricio Pochettino is a millionaire, one that even has ‘he’s magic you know’ engraved upon his garden BBQ. Life is not rushing past the Argentinian.

The impetus to snatch at the first lucrative coaching role that comes by isn’t there for the Argentine. We’re not talking Harry Redknapp degrees of eagerness here – that could lure a man to Jordan or to the Seattle Sounders or Birmingham City…

Obviously Poch doesn’t want to be out the game for too long, or some potential Kingmakers may overlook his name when drawing up their extremely short lists, but he is clearly fixated with getting the right job, with the right profile – for him and his team. The Athletic understands that Pochettino politely declined the opportunity to hook up with Paul Mitchell who is now working for the principality.

Looking up and down the Premier League table, I’d be inclined to wait for Manchester United to come horribly unstuck in the Champions League. Ole Gunnar Solskjær has lucked into the gilt-edged seats this season, with his unconvincing charges having conceded far too many (28) league goals.

United appears very satisfied with itself at present, but the lack of silverware will not sit well for long at Old Trafford.

The big ones won’t happen under ENIC. How on earth can they if the club is spending well under half what their rivals are on wages? You get what you pay for, Levy thinks he can disprove that. The result one poxy Leagu Cup in 20 years and endless manger changes. Same old sh*t…

I meant big cups. We have it in us. I’d take a domestic double or Europa league winners next season. CL&PL the following.

I don’t care about the League Cup and all this two bit cr*p. We won it in 08, our only trophy under ENIC, that was TWELVE YEARS ago and it would be progress would it? Not in my book, might keep the mugs happy but then they’re happy with anything Levy does anyway. These people don’t think straight…

He deserves a club in the Champion’s League but I would honestly like to see how he’d do at a club like Watford. I reckon he could turn a club like that around, get them in the top six and come back to Spurs once our fans finally get bored of only 29% ball possession at home…

He could well end up at Utd, they were after him a year or two ago, Fergie and the Nevilles are big fans. Anyone who can’t see what a fantastic job he did at Spurs considering the budget is an idiot.

Imagine what he could do with a bit of backing…

Hes Waiting for the Celtic job🌚 Would be good for him to go up there and smash it for a few seasons whilst doing his thing in the champions league. That or try to bring Fulham up.

See – i think Newcastle would be 3yrs with top money to go top 4, I agree, then to win the league, it would depend of other teams, but they could get there in 4 with the money they could spend. Poch could build the team in his image…

Guardiola won’t be many more years at City and teams mess up. There’ll always be a team in trouble. Poch wants somewhere where winning is as nailed on as possible.

Not sure about Newcastle, would take two or three years to knock them into shape just to be a top four team, winning the Premier League could be more years. The time line is wrong.

United got 20 something penalties this season. Ole has ridden his luck, but some could argue his united team look far better than the one he inherited (that manager didnt do bad for himself!). i think you may see Poch a little further north…like Newcastle. They will be oil rich very soon, and as city has proven, if you have enough money FFP is just an acronym.

I think Poch was always earmarked for united, but Ole didnt slip up as much as was expected. Now, honestly, i can see him in Spain or at the toon.

If Ole gets Utd into the top 4 and win the Europa League (there isn’t much resistance left) which looks increasingly likely, Poch will have to wait it out. A job has to come up in the summer. Huddersfield and Watford are crying out for Poch!

Maybe he’s on a promise. I expect some club will panic in December and send for the Cavalry.
