Possible Explanation For Lo Celso’s Mystery Absence: But Is It Worse Than The Covid-19 Rumours?

By Joe Fish -

The whereabouts of Giovani Lo Celso have become somewhat of a concern for Tottenham fans of late.

Our great beacon of hope has been absent from recent training pictures and did not feature in the intra-squad 11 vs. 11 practice match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Friday.

The amateur detectives among us have put two and two together and assumed the Argentine midfielder is the mystery man behind the positive Covid-19 case that Spurs confirmed earlier this week, although The Guardian claims the player in question is not a “key first-team player”.

Football London’s Alasdair Gold has offered another explanation for Lo Celso’s absence, but I’m not sure it’s any better…

“There’s some talk that he’s picked up a minor knock in recent days but nothing has been confirmed on that as of yet [sic], so we await [sic] to see what the official line from the club is,” Gold wrote in his Saturday Q&A.

While Covid-19 is of course extremely serious in some cases, Spurs confirmed via Sky Sports that the player who had tested positive this week was showing no signs of symptoms. So theoretically, after seven days of self-isolation, he will be fit and ready to rejoin the group.

In that situation, a knock would be more likely to keep Lo Celso out of our first Premier League game back against Manchester United on June 19th.

Can the club please clarify Lo Celso’s status to return us all to sanity?
