Pochettino to Barcelona could be costly for Tottenham claims report

By Bruce Grove -

Mauricio Pochettino has been linked with the managerial position at Barcelona this summer, and it might be bad news for Tottenham.

The Argentinean was sacked by Spurs last November, despite leading the Lilywhites to the final of the Champions League.

The club made a very poor start to the just-finished season and they even risked getting dragged down towards the relegation zone before firing the Argentinean.

He has since been replaced by Jose Mourinho at Tottenham, but he has not had a new job since that time.

He has been linked with clubs like Newcastle United when they were expected to be taken over by a new owner.

He was also recently linked with a move to Juventus after the Old Ladies got rid of Maurizio Sarri.

The Sun is now claiming that he is in line to take over at Barcelona after their humiliating loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League throwing the future of Quique Setien into further doubt.

The report claims that the Catalans plan to turn to the former Espanyol man and he will probably raid Tottenham for some of their top stars.

It mentions Harry Kane as a possible replacement for the ageing Luis Suarez and Giovanni Le Celso, who had been a target of the Catalans before Spurs managed to beat them to his signature.

Barcelona does have serious financial issues but it would not be out of the question for them to make a move for Kane or Lo Celso and the opportunity for the pair to be reunited with Poch would be a huge temptation.

Pochettino taking over at Barcelona could be bad news for Tottenham and that is not idle speculation.

I think that case was less “shot across the bow” and a lot more final nail for FFP. UEFA need to be ultra careful with city now, and I think the neglect was due to the impending case. I see them being biggest spenders by a distance this summer.

Lyon deserve a lot more credit for the way they beat Money city, you can pay to win in court, but you cant pay to win matches, loved it.

City have to a lot more careful about their spending within FFP.I agree that Barca have their own financial problems, but the City rebuild is bigger (Easty above) than some people are saying, because of neglect over the last two years. There are clear weaknesses in that side.Pep may just think he can’t achieve anymore there.

Indeed, wise words from the Dillster on this occasion. Who’d want it? Possibly the prodigal son has to return to call the shots, ie Pep.

I reckon he’d fancy it. He’s obviously from Barcelona born and bred, gone and earned big money at Bayern and Citeh so a rebuild at his home club might be appealing now. He’s got a slight rebuild at Citeh to do as well, do it in the sun amongst friends or in the rain of Manchester?

Unlimited budget at city Vs a declining Barca in a league that struggles to justify itself. Spanish League needs a serious think about equity share. Was never a problem when RM and Barca could print money, I think within 5yrs if something doesn’t change in La Liga there will be huge push for euro sort League.

Nearly impossible not to win things at Bayern. Would be a good move for him. Barca would be a bad move. Real would be a good move too. Them BIG high expectation clubs could finish him though. Ajax would be a clever move.

After last night what are the odds of Guardiola being lured back to Barca to rebuild the side, possibly with the help of Xavi or Iniesta.I think he would seriously consider it.

Wages mean nothing then? Messi and Bales wages would wipe out all our money.

Of course it’s idle speculation! Firstly, all the players you mention are under long term contract at Spurs and secondly you can be sure that Levy will have inserted some clause in Poch’s severance pay agreement preventing him from poaching Spurs players should he move to another club.

280 Million for Kane and Lo Celso but they would have to give us Messi as part of the deal. We then go and get Dybala for 80 Million , Jack Grealish for 80 Million and Bale back for 20 million. All those players and stil 100 million left over for levy to pay off 2/3 of the money he borrowed this year.. Tat sounds like a great deal to me.

Sounds familiar the job of turning a team around who have money problems. Good luck to him I doubt he has chance of landing Kane.

Leaving glamour aside of managing Barca the job of reviving a sinking ship requiring a major overhaul of the team over reliant on the imperious Messi looks like a tough ask poisoned chalice at this juncture!!
