Pochettino Sacking: Pick Of The Player Reaction

By Joe Fish -

What a whirlwind 24 hours it has been at Tottenham Hotspur.

Tuesday 19th November, 7.34pm: Mauricio Pochettino sacked.

Wednesday 20th November, 6.33am: Jose Mourinho appointed.

Some fans are on a 15-hour straight Twitter run. I haven’t slept.

Fan Reaction: Jose Mourinho Takes His First Spurs Training Session

And it is a lot for the players to digest too. Aside from a few exceptions, they will report to training today and, for the first time in their Spurs lives, it won’t be Pochettino, Jesus Perez and the rest of his staff taking the session.

It will be a strange atmosphere at Spurs this week. Poch was more than a manager to some of the players. He has been pivotal in developing the careers of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and many others within the current group. Not only that, he has nurtured them as men. Kane and Dele are among the players who have been reacting to his shock departure on social media:

With most of them away on international duty, the players have not had much time to show their gratitude to the Argentine, which may explain why the social media presence from them is a little thin on the ground.

Alternatively, those less loyal to Poch may not be too upset to see him go. You can’t help but notice the out-of-contract brigade are awfully quiet…

So, apparently Poch was sacked at 7.34pm and Ben Davies was kicking off in a vital game just TEN minutes later in Cardiff , yeah course he knew lol, this lad never gets a break from some of you people.

I don’t see Erikson being a Jose favorite. He doesn’t play enough defense. He’s soft defensively. Look what he(Jose) did to Matta. Guy was MVP performer one year and Jose gets back and Matta isn’t good enough. This is one of the more interesting things to me. How will these two work together? Eriksen may want to learn how to tackle and be stronger defensively.

Lets face it, the turn around, we all know how Levy works, contract negotiation would have been at least 1 month. Add to that picking the right time to let Poch go, this has been on the cards for possibly the start of the season. I wonder if in typical Levy fashion, Poch was supposed to go in summer, Levy priced him out the market, Poch knew Jose was already lined up so basically been acting like a child all season? Probably find United wanted him or something but due to Levy/current manager the exit didn’t happen. So doing what CE been doing…phoning it in.

Because Son is a genuinely nice guy and was the bigger man by accepting Poch’s decision and working hard to get back into the team (and not running to the papers and playing the race card, unlike someone else…)

That was one of the things the united fans hated about him. many consider him to blame for Rashford stalling for so long.

What concerns me is Jose’s lack of faith in the younger players or developing them. That said he is the first team coach, not the Development coach. Jose is a little like HR in that he prefers more seasoned players. Will this deter Parrott and Tanganga from signing new deals?

Jan and Toby will probably last longer in terms of playing longevity under Mourinho’s system than they would under Poch. But the price has to be right for them otherwise they will still leave and get a better deal elsewhere. Can Mourinho get a tune out of CE23?

I hate Jose…I will never not hate Jose…but I must admit, the more I think about it, the more I think we may see a return to a meritocracy, where the best players play rather than some weird rotation system that see’s the guy saving our bacon getting dropped the following week. Last season happened a few times, usually to accommodate Kane. If you look at our form, it picked up for a few weeks when Son returned from Asia games, and he was on fire, then got dropped because Kane was not injured anymore, still not fit, and then that is where we really went off the wagon. I am shocked Son is so complimentary of Poch.

The question is whether HH is going to have a fire sale of Poch memorabilia or hike the prices because they’re collectors items now. 🤐

In fact, looking back the whole thing is strange. Poch playing Dier and Foyth and leaving out the big lads, he seemed to self sabotage with his selections. With the reality TV thing this whole process seems orchestrated, he signed the contract to take the bullet, he was going anyway and could have just played along then making way for the big Mourinho entrance. Don’t think this was a surprise internally at all.

First thing Jose will do is put Toby and Jan back as CB pair. That alone will see results change.

Odd use of language, why the ‘really’?
