Fan Reaction: Jose Mourinho Takes His First Training Session At Spurs Today

By The Boy -

No messing about for Tottenham’s new boy Jose Mourinho. The Special One is already at Hotspur Way – according to Sky Sports and will take his very first training session today.

Mourinho’s appointment has not been universally welcomed by Spurs fans – if social media is anything to go by, and we’ll address the fan mentality reboot required a little later on.

One fan, Mike_MUFC seems to be worried that the name on the manager’s door will change, but the approach to transfers won’t.

Opinion: I agree with Aftab, Daniel Levy has already watched the life drain from one manager but not backing him sufficiently, the Tottenham chairman is many things, but he is no fool.

Conversely, Jose will have a rough idea of the resources available to him, and perhaps more pertinently have a sufficient understanding of how Levy operates.

There shouldn’t be too many surprises for either party.

A leopard can’t change his spots, You think because its Spurs and we want it to be different with Jose it will! Foolish thinking guys. I agree he is a winner and we may win a trophy or even 2. That’s great but Jose will cause problems and be gone in year 3 or before. It’s who he is and what he does. He can’t help himself.

Indeed so have I and statistically Mourinho is by far the most successful manager we have ever appointed. Also, I suspect, one who has an axe to grind with regard to his departure from Utd, which might work out in our favour.

The bottom line is Mourinho has won trophies at every single club he has ever worked at, so if that run continues, the majority of the fan base will probably overlook the more defensive style of football we are likely to see played under him.

Also, to all the naysayers, Mourinho schooled Poch in that FA Cup semi-final against Utd and still won two trophies there in 2 1/2 years, despite manifest unhappiness with the squad. Love him or loathe him, he’s a serial winner and deserves our backing.

What a load of sentimental numb nuts there are here, yeah Poch great chap but results this year poor enough to get anyone sacked and to be honest the side to side style of play we have been witnessing recently have been excruciating to watch at times. Not a fan of Mourinho but the mans a winner full stop.

Hahaha! Can you imagine?
If Jose couldn’t, and admitted such, challenge City and Liverpool with a 300 million budget how the hell is he going to do it with what Levy’s going to allow?? But it’s not about winning, it’s about 4th. That’s it. Financial 4th. Yaaaaaaaaaawn

We may need to put the “flash” aside for a while and get used to winning match’s/competitions. Jose will do that I think. He had Chelsea playing sparkling football once. This could be good man.

The last 12 hours have been a whirlwind of emotion. I was distraught at the Poch sacking and not too pleased to be getting Mourinho, but I’ve slept on it, read a lot of opinions and have changed my mind somewhat.

It’s clear that Poch had lost the dressing room (in respect of a few key voices that he undoubtedly wanted shot of), whilst I would have preferred for him to have the rest of the season to rebuild etc. it seems that Levy has gone all in.

My romantic fantasy is that Levy has ticked all the boxes on the things he’s wanted to do in his Tottenham tenure (training ground, consistent european football, new stadium) and the final thing is to genuinely compete – he isn’t an idiot, he knows to do that he needs to invest heavily, i’m not the biggest Mourinho fan in the world but he is a serial winner and can usually sign the right players. I hope this appointment is Levy saying “yes I will back the manager but i’m backing someone who is proven and has done this before” (after all, Levy is all about minimising risk, is this his way of doing so? Spending big but trusting someone of Mourinho’s pedigree to spend wisely).

Either way, i’ll still back the team every week. And once Poch is back in management (as long as its a foreign team) they will become my 2nd team.

I knew something was wrong when Sissoko and Davies got new long term deals and Toby and Jan were left high and dry.

Lo Celso was a loan because Levy wouldn’t back Poch, Gio will go back in January.

It’s all very sad…

What a circus. All for the TV show. That fella who said 3 or 4 are only needed to challenge is on Pluto licking paint. This new showbiz Levy/Jose double act will be less likely to succeed than Jordan and Peter Andre.
Wouldn’t surprise me if the team miraculously started winning, you know, for the script to the show.

Other than that it’s square one time again. ENICs favourite place, a perpetual Dawn of new projects and opportunity to manage expectations. Even if he does give Jo some bank, which would be disgusting after Poch was hamstrung, itl get to the same point it always gets too.,…the brink of something, and then the funds will not be there. That’s the best case scenario to this joke.

Top four with the 7th wage bill and one of the lowest net spends. Maureen has never been at a club without vast resources, this just isn’t going to work. This was a panic appointment in the hope he gets us in the top four.

A short term ‘fix’ to a problem that can only be actually solved by new owners…

I don’t think Poch going was necessarily the bad choice – it was clear the players didn’t want to play for him, and in 5yrs the dead balls have never improved, there has never been a plan B, the players always dipped towards the end of the season as no sensible rotation and a very hard playing style. I don’t think Poch had it in him to turn it around and its clear Levy was not willing to spend for him. my issue is Jose is the wrong decision. No part of his history makes me think otherwise, we may win some stuff, but realistically it will be all about him and I cant stand the guy.

For all Poch’s endearing qualities, Eriksen strangely taking corners and latterly being tactically astute (odd timing of his late subs at Anfield) was arguably not one of them!!

I wonder how much of this pantomime is led by Amazon – are we closer the only way is Essex than a real documentary? semi scripted tripe? Jose here to further launch his himself rather than football reasons. No way Jose gets backed to the tune he would want or the club needs so we will see a Feb melt down which will make better TV. All the while we as a team on the pitch scrape into the Europa…alla United under Jose with the fans preferring to gauge their eyes out than watch the team. I have a lot of close friends very close to the united set up, and they all tell me that players were struggling to come in some mornings as they didn’t want to deal with him. my attitude towards jose is not purely what you see on TV, I know a few background things, and if you think what he did on TV was bad, you should hear how he treated the back office people, from the low level roles who he ignored, and treated like slaves, barely even recognising them as anything close to human, to the playing staff he regularly derided and told were useless. He is everything I hate about modern football rolled into one person.

The king is dead, long live the king.

We move on. Quickly. Because football is fickle.

Im in a bit of a cognitive dissonance confusion at the min because I didnt think Jose would actually come to us but now he’s here….

Jose is a winner. He is at Spurs.

What can go wrong? An irresistible force hitting an immovable object?

Jose believes he is the best at everything, and going into the agreement will probably have told levy he will enter the first training session my walking on water. Then truth will hit when he gets the same tune out of the players that Poch got and suddenly we will see the tantrum Jose. as I said previously, the only good that will come from this is Levy being called out.
HH – I am shocked at you thinking Levy will have learnt his lesson about not backing a manager. Name one he has ever backed!!
