Poch Resigned To History’s Dustbin As Amazon Make The Cruellest Cut

By The Boy -

This a review, so if you are concerned about spoilers, this piece will be positively littered with them. So either get your skates on a watch this unmissable series, or you’ll also need to switch the power off in your house and swallow your SIM card in order to remain uninformed.

The opening 15 minutes of episode one are more than enough to have you thanking your deity of choice that Pochettino’s footage almost entirely left on the cutting room floor. Fatigued, overweight and zombie like in his pressers, this made for uncomfortable viewing. Not in some empathetic sense, but because even I who wanted him gone, has misremembered just how spiritually down on his luck the Argentine had become. Asked in one presser about being so adrift in the table, the reply was ‘It is normal’, this was chilling, all too reminiscent of David Brent’s last hours at Wernham Hogg, when as redundancy package was being sketched out for him, he was quoting Nietzsche to a camera, that unlike him, would still be there in a week’s time.

Ironically there is more of Pochettino in this series than one might first imagine, as his ghost haunts the screen every time Mourinho speaks of winning. For those needy of contrast, contrast is ever present, after five and a half years of winning nothing.

Tom Hardy’s voice is irritating as he appears incapable of just talking without doing an impression of someone else; those of you that watched his Sky Mobile adverts will recall his John Hurt tribute.

On the production values, when clips of games are shown, the strings that create the atmosphere are all the same, and after a few waves of slow building, an aural motion sickness can start to kick in. What can effectively combat this is the distraction of subtitles…

For some imbecilic reason, Amazon neglected to add subtitles, and there’s a fair whack of Portuguese spoken, which will require you to enable the captions if you don’t speak it.

More to follow.

Yeah the Jol scenario was cruel too… If/when Levy screws over Maureen then we know for sure he won’t take it lying down like Poch did. He will come straight out to the media danny rose style……. Upfront and honest maureen is….. Poch often contradicted himself. Jose says it how it is.

I took one thing from the 3 episodes so far. Daniel says ALL the right things in front of camera.

Cares about the club. Wants to win. Cares about the 600 staff ( don’t mention furlough 🤫) even cares when players form dips or they want to leave.

For the disciples, this is TV or more importantly Levy gold.

It would be rude not to watch, but agreed, it would be great to see what really happens. Those lads are like any other football team, and my mates don’t talk about toothpaste and tell crap dog jokes, so I’d expect something to get the PC brigade all hot and bothered. All about image though and too many sponsors would walk away if the public really saw what went on.

7th highest wage bill and 17th highest net spend and you ignore it like all the other mugs.

It’s actually quite sad, a bit like some kind of Stockholm Syndrome in which Levy keeps all the thickos locked within.

I agree, Levy broke him, failed to back him and sacked him. Did a very similar thing with Jol, another top bloke, and several others. He’s a poison mate, I just hope we get sold to owners with ambition, sooner rather than later. The club deserves so much better, enough is enough man…

It’s quite revealing stuff this bit of an insight into the people of the club, as for Poch he seemed a broken man after the CL final loss, and this undoubtedly reflected in the players the following season. It was like a bereavement of someone close, they couldn’t cope with the situation they found themselves in, and seemed lost, this is where Poch should have shown his motivational skills as a man manager. Instead he sulked and the players didn’t respond positively, so it’s clear to see why the sacking was inevitable in the end . I have liked the way Mourinho has worked with the players and had personal meetings with them, they are now starting to believe again, would have liked to see the chats with those he doesn’t want, but so far it’s been a good watch.

I saw Ndombelly three times.. Once carrying his lunch tray. The other two times he was eating!…. It was always going to be heavily edited unfortunately.. The first episode was like an advertisement of our stadium and Levy banging on about how ambitious he is.. Shame we couldnt have a proper documentary not edited by baldy. It’s poor. Though I will still watch them all 😆

Can’t reply on previous thread… I was a fan of Botch mate, I still am… He is without a doubt a world class COACH. One of the very best.. But his MANAGER skills and technique left big question marks. He has a lot to prove as a manager. Silly decisions, throwing games, limited game plans.. He wasn’t backed agreed, but after mitchell left we still did business and far too much dross came in under his watch. Apparently Ndombelly was a poch choice which is also disturbing.. Poch was gone ten months ago now. Time to let go mate, like your beautiful ex….. Watch pochs brief interviews on all or nothing… He looked a broken man and sounded it too.

I wonder what the actual hatred of poch is about then? I mean seriously why are people hating him? Did he sell his soul and move down the seven sisters road? Nope. He got us within touching distance of winning. Didn’t complete the job, but you know what, apart from Ramos noone else has thus century so give it a rest you masturbating people

He only wants to add value to his investment, he’s not bothered about winning stuff.

This season he will pay Jose to pretend we’re ‘going for it’ but as any expenditure will be balanced off the sale of Kane next summer and we keep doing deals under 20m it will be yet another empty gesture. Even if we win a domestic cup or the Ropey, it always leads to a dead end with ENIC.

Most of the change in perception of Poch and Jose over the last 12 months has been down to spin and the back-to-the-future culture many have tried to cultivate since he took the reigns at Spurs. Not very much of it has anything to do with what we’ve soon on the pitch so far.

Had he been backed and allowed to get on with a rebuild I see no reason why we wouldn’t have finished in the same position if Poch had stayed this season. Possibly even higher, although top 4 would have been tough. No miracles performed by Jose, yet…

Although they’re coming down the tracks according to some. Let’s hope they’re right.

And yet if it had been the previous year it would have been a completely different film. Mourinho licking his wounds after being booted out of ManU nowhere to be seen and Pochettino (and Levy) celebrating getting to Madrid.
Did you ever like Pochettino H or was the hatred always there?

Saying that, given Tintin’s current situation, I’d say Levy’s having a chuckle at the Italians expense. Then again, had he sold him the year before he would’ve made a very handsome profit from the deal. Levy’s the Mr Magoo of football chairmen.

Aye he’s portraying himself as a hero. Talk of the new stadium but nothing about the billion pound debt.. Talk about his ‘influence’ on buying players and improving the team.. Trying desperately to keep tintin, a serial failure who wanted out.. Noone should be bigger than the club, he should have been shifted as soon as his little bottle head turned. Levy came out embarrassing himself.

I was happy to support previous managers until it became apparent to me that they were not going to bring the success the club needs. After that they were fair game. Don’t really remember them much. Not that dwelling on the past accomplishes anything positive. The same will apply to Mourinho at some point. Am I fickle or being realistic?

The absence of Poch was telling, and the bits we got were akin to going to a care home to visit a relative you knew no longer knew you! Very sad. Even more telling was the absence of Ndombele. The ball boy got more action in 3 episodes than our record signing. There needed to be more bones, listening to players talk about toothpaste and footballing dogs is nonsense, but these players have media profiles and sponsors, nothing can be done to harm those.

One thing that struck me immediately was Levy talking of their “vision” for the new stadium. FFS, their only vision should be about winning stuff. Yes, the stadium is magnificent; and the match day experience for the ‘haves’ of this world must be something extraordinary. And, who knows, maybe it will be the catalyst for major successes, that future generations of Spurs fabs will enjoy. Well fxxx that, we could’ve; and should’ve had it now.

I watched them on amazon prime video on xbox.. The portugese was subtitled on there.. Poor documentary in my opinion, far too heavily edited.. Compared to a proper doc (louix therox or reggie yates) this showed no bare bones… Dissapointing…. Listening to Levy generally talking about football isn’t even funny. Cringey and embarrassing. He confirms he’s clueless with his small talk….. The two highlights which stood out for me was Sacramento telling Maureen ‘everyone says that Sissoko has big influence in the dressing room’.. Jose replies ‘FCUK’ ……. And then Tintin around the dinner table getting everyones attention to read a joke from his phone…’why can’t a dog play football? Because he has two left feet.’.. Diers face says it all. Wasted 135 minutes watching those three episodes. Learning nothing really.
