Opinion: THFC Potentially Playing With Red Card Fire Should They Pursue This Line Of Debate

By Joe Fish -

Tottenham Hotspur confirmed today at Jose Mourinho’s press conference that they have appealed Son Heung-min’s red card received against Chelsea.

Football London quote Mourinho describing the dismissal as an “injustice”.

MORE: Jose Mourinho Accuses Antonio Rudiger Of Simulation

The South Korean was sent off for the third time in 16 Premier League games for a petulant kick out at Antonio Rudiger during the 2-0 defeat.

As it stands, Son will miss the festive games against Brighton & Hove Albion, Southampton and Norwich City. By appealing the decision, Spurs risk Son’s suspension being increased, as The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare explains.

In the worst case scenario, Son could end up being banned for six games.

This, however, is unlikely as the length that it took VAR official Paul Tierney to overrule on-field referee Anthony Taylor – several minutes – means that the FA would be difficulty placed to argue that the appeal is “frivolous”.

It is worth noting that Son’s last red card, against Everton following the Andre Gomes incident, was rescinded, but I doubt he’ll get lucky again.

The club must know that and are playing with fire even filing this appeal.

IMO Parrott is for now not the future!! when if players like Alli are not pulling their weight then drop them. Simples!
What happened to that Georghuio kid. I that he had potential as did Rasiak – What happened to him and Geroge Marsh?

IMO nothing wrong with playing a good old fashioned 4-4-2 as we did once with Sherrigham and Klinsmann who benefited with pace on the flanks feeding on a diet of quality crosses into the box from Shaggy Anderton et al

+1
The Appeal will fail.

Pointless rotating stale stock for the Brighton match I would drop Alli to the bench and play Troy Parrott up front with Kane. At least Parrott will give it his best. As previously intimated I would also play Ryan Sessegnon against Brighton. Things need to be shaken up quick.

Aurier dropped
Dier dropped
Eriksen in.
Moura?

It’s a good question mate, I asked myself the same. We had a full week to prepare for this game, which was arguably our most important of the season so far. How we could have played so flat is beyond comprehension. Even Mourinho, whose tactics have been outstanding so far, seemed lethargic in the amount of time he took to adjust the formation, with no realignment until half time, by which time the game was basically gone. To be fair it didn’t seem to be a fitness issue, it seemed to be more a mental issue

Lack of investment in the squad and/or inadequate time to condition and assimilate those that have been acquired, Ndombele, Lo Celso, Sessegnon, plus the malcontents at less than full capacity, Erikssen, Rose, etc, leave us with a small squad and few options at this point. Quite different to 2 or 3 seasons ago when we had real defensive and midfield options and quality rotation. Walker, Rose (in his prime), Trippier, Dembele, Wanyama (In his prime), Dier (the pre-lumbering oaf version!), etc.

The Son sending off was Beckhamesque and he can have no complaints. It was a stupid thing to do. This appeal will fail and we are best iff sucking it up. Instead Son shouldn’t be above a ticking off from Mourinho. It was a petulant act like Bournmouth last season. We all love Son but he gets a little frustrated when things are not going his way and it needs to be nipped in the but

Three times now, in the last 12 months, Son has been sent off for a ‘petulant’ response to being fouled. This is a discipline issue and much as we love Son as a player and for being an all-round good guy, he needs to get a grip on his childish displays of petulance. This red card will not be rescinded and that will mean 6 games now that he will have lost to this kind of incident.

30/40 years ago, when football was a man’s game and not a showcase for overpaid, play-acting, prima donas, neither the Bournemouth incident not yesterday’s would have resulted in a booking, but times have changed. Football has become so prissy that referees these days will book you at the ‘drop of a hat’, for even the most innocuous fouls. Therefore Sonny must discipline himself accordingly. He is too important a player to be on the sidelines for 6 games a season.

One of Son’s 3 red cards was rescinded. His CV will show 2 red cards.

One of the things that has to be looked at is the fitness/sports science department at Spurs. They had a week off, should have been as fresh as daisies, but they were lethargic, slow, empty. It might simply be that relying on the same 14/15 players for five years has burnt them out mentally and physically. Just one more thing the regime has to answer for.

Son has now been sent off three times. This does not look good on his CV. The result yesterday and the manner in which we imploded does not augur well either. I am not blaming Maureen but this team is finished as a well oiled machine. Maureen’s comments that he is happy with the squad is nonsense. We all have different views on Poch’s abilities, compared to Maureen’s superior CV, but the fact remains that the disintegration of the team is due to chronic under investment by the most over rated and overpaid CEO in the PL. It really doesn’t matter who the manager is, we will never achieve football success under the stewardship of Enic and their acolyte,
