Carlo Ancelotti was ruled out of the running to be the new Tottenham Hotspur manager because he was “too expensive”, reports The Sun.
The Sun understands that Ancelotti was considered to replace Mauricio Pochettino but that the high amount of compensation required to snare him from Napoli led Daniel Levy to approach Jose Mourinho instead.
Mourinho was appointed less than 12 hours after Pochettino’s sacking last week and beat West Ham United 3-2 in his first game in charge on Saturday.

Spurs had already committed to a £12.5m payoff for Pochettino, according to FourFourTwo, so another big sum may have dettered them from pursuing Ancelotti who also previously managed London rivals Chelsea.
This is another report trying to paint Levy as a penny-pincher, but the truth is he has not shied away from the finances of this managerial change, with Mourinho apparently signing on for £15m a year – twice as much as Pochettino was pocketing after his new contract, reports the Daily Mail.
If Levy wanted Ancelotti, he’d have gone for him. He wanted Mourinho and the fact that he was available merely made that choice more obvious.
Mourinho is the better choice, out of him and Ancellotti and one
reason is the young man he has brought with him to be his #2.
I never recommend articles by Sky Sports, or any other media outlet for
that matter, however on this occasion I will make an honourable
exception. A fascinating piece (see link below) about Joao Sacramento,
Jose’s new #2 and the youngest such appointee in the EPL.

I think this is a particularly bold and interesting appointment by Mourinho and the possible acquisition of Campos from Lille, as Director of Football, who has personally scouted and recruited several hundred million pounds worth of subsequent EPL talent in the last 5 years, might also be of considerable benefit to the future of the club.

Provide job opportunities for topless models?
Jose was possibly the cheaper option in terms of outlay, given Poch’s severance payment. He may not be a tight-wad on this occasion but he was still watching the pennies.
Make up your mind Joe . Who will be flavour of the day Tomorrow ? Redknapp Maybe .
Josés in touch. Present
Yeah but would he bring a 29 year old future manager with him? Jose is so clever man.
🎼José is a YIIIIIIIIIIID
Jose is a yiiiiiid. Later gonna be good. Looking forward to it much
I could see some legs in the “we wanted Rogers” headlines. But Ancellotti? why? I am not a huge fan of Jose but why pay more for Ancellotti that has done less? I am only guessing that the theory (if this is true, which I highly doubt) is that Ancellotti would have caused less waves and less headaches?
Why does the Sun even exist?
Looking forward to tonight.
