One Tottenham transfer that will not now happen following nightmare injury

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham’s move for Italian star, Nicolo Zaniolo is almost certainly not going to happen after he suffered a second ACL injury in less than a year in Italy’s game against the Netherlands last night, Goal.com reports.

The Roma midfielder has emerged as a top target for Tottenham for some time as the Lilywhites look to bolster their team in this transfer window.

The clubs have spoken over a move for him, however, the Italians had been reluctant to sell him.

With the transfer window still open, there was still hope that the deal might yet go through, but this injury will have ended all that now.

The 21-year-old is one of the best young talents around Europe at the moment and Spurs were hoping that they would be able to get him to join their team as Jose Mourinho attempts to win a trophy for them.

But it seems this will be a serious injury and it will no longer make sense to make a move for him.

“It looks like a major knee sprain,” Italy’s doctor, Andrea Ferretti said to Rai Sport via Goal. “It’s difficult to draw comparisons with the other knee because that’s already been operated on.

“It’s a sprain of some importance. He’s coming out of that long rehabilitation process for the other cruciate and he’s obviously worried, as we are, too.”

Let’s be honest, it was always going to be a long shot anyway, Zaniolo was just too expensive an option at this time.

Tough break for a young player, hope with the best that modern surgical techniques offer he can return to the game.
