“Not Under Any Circumstance” “Insane” Fear Of Losing Tanguy Is Way OTT [opinion]

By Joe Fish -

There has been speculation about Tanguy Ndombele’s Tottenham future for a few weeks now, but Sky Sports’ report about a potential swap deal with Barcelona has really escalated the conversation.

Lyall Thomas understands that the French midfielder is a Barca target but is out of reach financially and that Samuel Umtiti and Nelson Semedo have been offered to Spurs in exchange to get a deal done.

Based on the immediate aftermath on Twitter, there is a minority, but not insignificant, a section of Spurs fans ready to play ball. About 25%.

And while the majority aren’t ready to call time on Tanguy let, some of the responses to possibly losing him have been ludicrously OTT.

Ricky Sacks, in particular, has got his pants in a twist about the whole thing.

I agree Ndombele has the potential to be a special player for us, but there is also the prospect that he never realises his talent in the Premier League, whether due to physical restrictions or a simple lack of giving a toss.

The fear shown here is as though Ndombele is a sure thing as if we were about to chop in Harry or Sonny for a couple of second-hand Skodas.

Selling the Frenchman would be a gamble but keeping him would be equally risky based on his performances and attitude this season. There is as much chance that we’d look back at this as a missed opportunity, for us to make the most of Ndombele retaining enough value for us to fill two or three holes in the squad, as there is as a Kevin De Bruyne-shaped regret.

Some players take time to adapt; some never manage to. It is not an exact science. But I know one thing – the players who do make it are the players that want to, and I don’t get a good vibe from Ndombele in that regard.

It’s a tricky one. I’m not for it, but I’m not so much against it so to go into meltdown.

Calling him out in the media led me to that assumption. He would have tried lots of strategies to get him on board (I hope). Jose would have praised him and got nothing, cajoled him and got nothing, told him in a one to one, then done the same in training in front of the other players, possibly leading to a few harsh words. To criticise in the media is a last straw tactic, few situations resolve themselves from that point. Jose has done all he can, now it is up to the player.

I don’t think Mourinho thinks that little of him, otherwise he wouldn’t be going to the park doing 1-2-1 training during lockdown! Probably (rightly) just as frustrated as the rest of us.

I was really excited when I first saw this lad play. He showed he could open up defences with forward passing, instead of being a square ball merchant. I couldn’t understand why he was always benched, but Poch always gradually integrated them. However, there is obviously something not right with him. If it is fixable Spurs should keep him, only the coaches will know for sure. I think it has to be a little more complicated than keeping him off the Jaffa cakes. Mourinho obviously thinks little of him and if he continues like he finished we will be lucky to get £30m for him next season. If a deal could be done that benefits us then I think Spurs will take it. In the current financial climate it would have to involve a player swap because no one is paying what we shelled out. Could we argue he has grown as a player!

Losing 1 0 to burnley watching Ndomballboy stroll like a snail to take a corner I just knew this lad is no winner. Head down he was beat. It was first half. Like waiting for the fat kid in the park walking to get the ball. 200k a week and he can’t even run. No urgency about him…. Its that winning mentality that seperates the winners from the rest. Never say die. Never go down easy. Never stop running. Never stop fighting. Refuse to lose…… Roy Keane didnt have half the skills of ndom, but he would have had the boy for breakfast..

They paid 36 million for paulinho after he went to china. Then released him the next year. Levy was praised for getting 16 or 18 mil for him.. Coutinho cost them 146 mil and they loan him to bayern the next season.. Questions marks for sure.. Let Levy in to deal with whoevers in charge there I reckon 😆

Barcelona are probably better at judging players than Spurs as their records show,so if they want N’Dombele maybe we would be better keeping him.
