Report: Contract Extension On The Table For Spurs Defender

By The Boy -

Jan Vertonghen’s Tottenham contract is very close to expiring, and this summer will see the Belgian at somewhat of a career crossroads. The now 33-year-old probably has maybe one or two last seasons left in him, despite having evidently lost a touch of pace recently.

The Sun has watched a video interview between the player and Play Sports in Belgium, where SuperJan suggested that Daniel Levy was prepared to offer him a further year on his deal, but the player ideally wants a two-year extension.

Could this see Jan head overseas? Given the slight loss of pace, a less frenetic league may well suit all concerned. Verts only cost Spurs £8million back in 2012, so great value has already been returned.

As Jan himself suggests, the most obvious leagues for a player in his condition are probably those in Spain or Italy.

Tottenham’s backline has conceded far too many goals of late, and in all likelihood, what we get, should Jan leave, is a re-jigging of existing personnel.

Alot of people are saying Jans legs have gone but I beg to differ. He never had pace in the first place. He was found out at left back recently and subbed and alot of people jumped on his back but he is a natural centre back. Try playing toby or eric dier at full back and they would also get schooled for pace. Prem wingers and forwards are rapid.

Super Jan has been an amazing player for us, a Rolls Royce of a player. I do think it would be a good time for him to leave, his legs have sadly gone for the Premier League. In 2 years time he’d be ready for the glue factory. Fazio was brilliant in Italy, so Jan would be a God. Would there be any point in him being a back up centre half or left back? I don’t think so, not on a two year deal anyway.

Schalke wrote to their fans a few weeks ago and asked them to consider waiving refunds for the remainder of their season tickets which they won’t be able to use. This was to ensure the continued “financial health” of the club; fans who do so have been offered a special commemorative jersey in return. Enjoy your new jersey. Best wishes, Daniel.

Anyone know if the club has refunded fans for the season ticket games that they will now not be able to attend, seeing as the games will be behind closed doors if there is a restart?

No, its worse than that, they have frozen accounts so you cant take any of your own money out that (if applicable) accumulated by selling tickets….! I have £400.00 quid stuck in it I cant get out that has been “ring fenced” for next years ST, of which I don’t want!
