Neville knows Spurs can win the title, he just doesn’t want to say it yet

By Bruce Grove -

Gary Neville isn’t one to easily admit to something and after watching Tottenham impressively dispatch Manchester City 2-0 at home yesterday, the Sky Sports pundit just stopped short of saying Jose Mourinho’s team can win the title.

Spurs faced arguably their biggest test of the season as they attempted to go top of the Premier League when Manchester City came to the Tottenham Stadium yesterday.

Pep Guardiola’s men had the better of possession and other stats like corners, but Spurs won the game with their two shots on target in a typical counter-attack strategy.

Neville was on punditry duty on Sky Sports and he claimed that Spurs were really good and that he could see them growing in confidence.

He just stopped himself from saying that they are now title challengers, which we all know they are now.

He said on Sky Sports as quoted by Mail Online: ‘I doubted it a few weeks ago [they could win the title] and I’m not going to change from that,

‘But they are certainly gaining in confidence and this was a really good performance.

‘In the first half, it was resilient and the Mourinho of old. In the second half, they were just better than City.’

All depends what we win though innit. I’d take playing this way if we won our first Prem title, to win the Ropey League, League Cup i’d rather not bother and have a top 4 League season playing nice stuff. FA Cup, maybe at a push…

I’m not concerned with years gone by or how it was then, it’s irrelevant.
This is NOW, I support THFC & want to see them WIN, however it’s achieved & am NOT interested in how/what other clubs do, an even bigger irrelevance.
Note ALL the players have bought into José 100%, concerned with WINNING, nobody harking on about nonsense trivialities.

Like the trophy didn’t like the football much. What’s wrong with that?

If Liverpool win the league again they’ll do it their way, so what’s wrong with being honest if you prefer their way to the Jose way?

I think it’s far more hypocritical to support a club that have not very much silverware in the Premiership era. All on the basis of its identity and style and then throw all that in the bin and accept defensive football to get a pot in the cabinet.

Let’s be honest, nobody supports Spurs to be glory hunters like Utd fans etc. It all comes down to why you support a club, some fans genuinely feel that unless we can do it with attacking flair and swagger then they’d rather not bother winning trophies.

I’m not that extreme, I enjoyed winning the Mickey Mouse under George Graham but I didn’t enjoy it. One of the worst finals ever and the team had zero flair other than Ginola.

I’m always happy when we win, I don’t mind the odd result being ‘ground out’, all part of the game. I just don’t want us to play most games like that because it goes against what our club is about. Under Jose it will be like this most of the time I’m afraid.

The real hypocrisy for me is in the sudden change in priorities… 🤔

Yes, not missed a home league match since the start of the last season at the old WHL.
A win is a win, it’s totally irrelevant to ME how it’s achieved & IF during José’s tenure THFC do win anything, I think it’ll be a tad hypocritical for the ‘don’t like the footy though’ brigade to celebrate it.

We’re you there when we beat Real Madrid without a home ground? That’s what I’m talking about, we’ve been doing nothing for the last seasons I take it?

More than one way to skin a cat mate, as Liverpool proved tonight and continue to prove.

I’m not in the Jose ‘bubble’ myself, it was a very good win and the players were a credit. There is however more than one way to win matches…

“The Spurs way” is that the same as the “Spursy” tag that has been about for 25 years?
Your getting your Y-fronts in a tangle, my ONLY point is 3 points is 3 points & for those that “don’t like the footy though,” then don’t watch it!
I’ve been a THFC fan since Jimmy Greaves was my 1st favourite player, I’ve seen/supported THFC through a relegation, to winning FA, UEFA & League cups. I was at the Sir Alex “lads, it’s Tottenham” match, 3-0 up at halftime, lost 5-3.
Time to move on, to NOW & leave ‘the Spurs way’ behind for ‘a NEW Spurs way!’ (Repeat – don’t watch if you “don’t like the footy though!”)

When have I moaned about winning? I’ve said that if we are winning it can be tolerated and that they executed Jose’s methods perfectly yesterday. I would prefer us to be a team that played on the front foot like Liverpool, Bayern etc.

Are you going to try to tell me that suddenly isn’t allowed? One are English Champions and the other are European champions so you can actually win stuff and not let the away side have the ball for 70% of the match. It’s been proven, by other managers.

If we win the league playing like this I won’t complain but I would have preferred to have done it the Spurs way.

If you’re going to tell me like some hopeless c*nts on here that ‘there is no such thing, there’s only winning’ then why do you even follow Tottenham Hotspur? 🤔 I don’t get it…

“I still don’t like the footy though… ”
The gameplan worked & NO part of WINNING says more possession, attacks, corners, throw in’s or olé football played on one leg whilst whistling Dixie, etc matters in gaining 3 points.
So, nobody with a modicum of intelligence gives a flying, fourpenny one it wasn’t how you & the rest of the stupefied wanted.
The wet kipper is all yours.

That wasn’t my point. I’d prefer us to win playing attacking football rather than letting the oppo have the ball for 75%of the match, at home too?!

I’ve already said that winning is the most important thing and we are doing it well right now. However, there is more than one way to skin a cat, defensively or as an attacking side.

Guess what? I prefer attacking football, so you can go and slap yourself about the face with a wet kipper mate… wake your own selt oop…😂

If anyone is failing to see the level of commitment Mourinho is giving to this club then they must be denying themselves, the honesty and integrity of the man could not be more apparent .
Whatever he and this club go on to achieve , you could not ask for more , I certainly won’t be.

Yes, because WINNING is nothing without being ‘entertained’ is it?
Should THFC give the 3 points back because City had more possession & corners?
Give yourself a left hook & an uppercut to wake yourself up a little!

He doesn’t like Jose but I think The experience of being sacked twice before taking over at Spurs has made him a little more humble about things.

It’s just taken a little edge off that unpleasant arrogance, as if the world owed him something because of what he’d done before. He’s having to earn his stripes again to an extent. I still don’t like the footy though… 😂
