Ndombele opens up on his disagreements with Mourinho and what to expect going forward

One of the first players that Jose Mourinho fell out with when he first became the manager of Tottenham was Tanguy Ndombele.

The Frenchman was signed when Mauricio Pochettino was the Tottenham manager and he joined the club to help them build on reaching the final of the Champions League last year.

He was expected to become one of the best in the league following some fine performances for Lyon before he moved to England.

His first season was underwhelming with the midfielder struggling to even earn a place in the first team.

When Jose Mourinho came in, he demanded more from the Frenchman and that demand led to problems.

The midfielder has now admitted that he and his manager are egotistic people and that caused problems, but they have put the issues behind them now to help the club move forward in the right direction.

Ndombele said as quoted by Sun Sport: “The manager and I had a number of differences of opinion last season.

“But since then we have each tried to put our egos to one side, and to move on for the sake of the club.

“For the time being things are working for the best, and let’s try to continue in this manner.”

Ndombele has been in superb form lately and the club will hope that he stays as he is for the foreseeable future.

Covid is the elephant in the room here

Without Covid how many of those buys would have happened and how much more would we have had to spend?

Not many or tens of millions more I suspect.

I dont like this, too arrogant from the player. Mourinho is a) the boss, b) the one with a cupboard full of trophies.

Definitely trouble brewing here.

Do we know our best 11 ?
Doherty will probably have to play in all 3 games for ROI as Coleman is injured, I wonder how many more of the squad will play as much, but it’s Kane I worry about with Southgate .
It’s a punishing schedule so we don’t know who will be available for the hammers, but I would play the fittest and freshest.

Well Hoddle rates him.

Said he’s twice the player that Lo Celso is, so maybe he’s right?

Tanguy does have quite an arrogant demeanour and I’d say Jose has had to bite his lip with this lad. At least Tanguy has responded unlike Pogba who just seemed to down tools because his ego couldn’t handle a bit of tough love.

I prefer Lo Celso too. He has proven to be a better bet than Ndombele (until now) but I think both will turn out to be excellent acquisitions. The squad is really strong now.

I think he has a very high ceiling once we get going, that will justify his price tag. The lad has so much power and ability and is so well suited for our league.

Perhaps not against the toughest opposition though? He looks best against the run of the mill teams I think, even then he has a habit of vanishing for periods a bit like Eriksen.
N’Dombele is racking up better stats in the league from fewer games.

Still sounds a bit frosty between them according to these quotes – a bit ‘watch this space’.

Hopefully they move in the right direction – winning all the time will no doubt help.

I prefer N’Dombele for the PL with Lo Celso for Europe and the cups. Tanguy has more of a physical presence and power, and is imo a better player able to rise to greater heights. Bale for the league and late stages of the cups. Aurier and Doherty is a tough one, depends on the opposition maybe?
I expect Levy to prioritize the league so he can collect the readies for top 4. I hope Mou ignores him and goes for EL equally as it also has CL qualification. I think Mou has more control than poor old Poch ever had. Perhaps little baldy has finally met his match. I think Mou wants every trophy going which is fantastic.

Looks like he has lost a little bit of weight, so hopefully his fitness should continue to improve and he can last 90 mins in the league.

it’s important for the success of the club that the pair have a professional relationship and hide their differences. Both are being paid well to do a job for the team.

Problems that already seem to have inspired the best out of some of the players – Aurier and Davies to mention two.

True, but under poch we spent 60 million on one player ndombela. This time we spent 59 million and got so much more value. Bale, Regullon, Hojbjberg, Doherty etc

Prefer Celso. Awesome player.

Still underperorming for the price we paid for him, he also loses the ball very often, but I agree he is improving, on hindsight would not have spent 60 million on him especially as we needed a striker so badly to cover kane. When kane and son got injured we had no one.

Ndombele has improved a lot but there are still stamina issues. He was subbed after 55 mins against 10 men. It was right after Utd broke up field and watching Tanguy try to track back was painful. I actually felt knackered watching him.

Listen to him “put our egos aside” can you imagine proper heroes like Harry or Son saying “oooh we had disagreements but managed to put our egos aside”

question is – West Ham next, does Jose drop Ndombele for Lo Celso? or Lamela for Bale? How about Aurier for Doherty? Do you head into West Ham with the team that smashed united or your best 11?
