Michael Dawson isn’t sold on Tottenham’s Emerson Royal

By Eddie Razo -

Last summer, Tottenham Hotspur decided to improve their right-back position and added Emerson Royal in a surprise move from FC Barcelona. With Serge Aurier departing, the position was for the Brazilian for his to overtake.

Nonetheless, Royal hasn’t convinced many in his first year with the north London club. Last week, the 23-year-old didn’t have a good showing against Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanders, leading to pundit Michael Dawson criticizing the defender.

Dawson stated that he does not think Royal is good enough to play as a right wing-back for manager Antonio Conte.

“Is he a right-back like we saw him play under Nuno? Is he a wing-back? No, I don’t think he gets high enough for them,” Dawson said.

Tottenham finds themselves in a challenging situation as they fight for a top-four spot in the Premier League. The north London club is in eighth place with a handful of clubs ahead of them for that final UEFA Champions League spot.

Spurs will need to see some clubs falter from now to the end of the season to have a shot at finishing in the top four.

Agreed. Royal is a giant dog turd of a footballer.

Not when we already have a CB here in Joe Rodon, who can’t get a sniff of the pitch for reasons unknown, and who incidentally, plays regularly alongside Davies in that position for Wales which Conte is either unaware of, or seems to ignore. Royal is a dud, just watch you won’t need stats to tell you.

Royal’s strength is his tackling. He is top of the heap for Spurs this season with 50. I make reference to this because he has been dismissed as being rubbish when the truth is he was bought for a different manager, as a defensive full back, and is now being played in a more advanced role which is not his strength.

None of this is his fault. I think a case could be made for him playing on the right of a back three; if Spurs actually had a functioning RWB. My logic here is; if Ben Davies can do it on the left could Royal be any worse than Davinson Sanchez or Tanganga?

If you start to believe that Levy is literally ripping the p#ss out the fans ..it all fits perfectly…no filler required.

There are so many things wrong at this club, starting at the top, and it has cascaded onto the pitch despite top managerial appointments being made which ultimately looks doomed to failure as things stand.
I think I shall stop there.

And we thought Aurier was bad. Still don’t get how we haggled over peanuts for the Japanese lad only to toss 26M Barcelona’s way for an 8M player.
