Juve has a scheme to land midfielder Tottenham is crazy for as striker target sees asking price increased

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur wants to continue fixing their midfield despite the additions of Rodrigo Bentancur and Pape Matar Sarr. The next move would be for manager Antonio Conte and Managing Director of Football Fabio Paratici to find that player who anchors the group.

A few days ago, a report surfaced linking Spurs to Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The Italian media outlet stated that Conte and Paratici are crazy about the Serbian, but a lot will depend on whether or not the north London club enters the top four.

Milinkovic-Savic wants UEFA Champions League football, which is why Juventus is looking to use that as leverage to keep the 27-year-old in Serie A. The Turin-based club hopes to get ahead of the competition in the race to sign Milinkovic-Savic this summer.

Calciomercato reports that Juventus intends to offer Nicolo Fagioli as part of the deal as they are aware that Maurizio Sarri has been impressed by the midfielder’s performances.

Now, the midfield isn’t the only position of priority; finding someone that can help in the scoring department will be an area of need to help compliment the likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

Spurs have scouted and been connected to one player is Benfica’s Darwin Núñez, who is wanted by many clubs across Europe, which is why the Portuguese giants plan to squeeze out a little more.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported that Benfica is looking for a transfer fee of €70-million; however, Mundo Deportivo reports that now they want €80-million to part ways with the 22-year-old, who has scored 33 goals in 38 appearances so far this season.

I am not so certain that a backup striker is a priority any longer. If 343 and 3412/352 are Conte’s preferred tactics, I think Kulu plays well enough both facing the goal and with his back to goal to give Kane some rest minutes in 343. Moura and Bergy of course giving minutes to Kulu and Son on the edges.

In 3412/352, Conte wants to bring in a true 10. That leaves Kane and Son up in the 2 with Kulu and Bergwijn as backups.

From what I am seeing and reading, it looks like the wingbacks are the true priorities to build a Conte squad. Past that, he states he wants a true 10, of course, and there is the matter of a left footed defender to push Davies, and another defender to replace Sanchez as backup – that said with no idea where Tanganga fits in, or his true level.

I think those are the priorities. 2 top class wingbacks, an attacking mid in a true 10 sense, and 2 defenders. Backup keeper of course, but I think Spurs will go homegrown there, and probably have a good idea of targets.

I think the DM and CM roles can be mostly covered between Hojbjerg, Bentancur, and Skipp. A replacement for Winks would be ideal. Winks is not up to the level required. I think the Conte praise is marketing strategy.

Playing “championship football” is a relatively garbage term for jacking up players price from average leagues. If one of the top 4 clubs in the PL is not willing to sign them for that kind of money they usually start put. So the bottom line is PL teams get suckered into signing these players and the world knows it, so they keep jacking up the price waiting for another sucker to come along. Usually the Chelsea and Mancity not so much Liverpool sign these overpriced players, but they are so stocked from the previous years they can afford to wait until they start performing in year 2 or 3. Not many clubs can afford that.

We are in the top four if you just look at the table.

it is not just a question of wanting to join a club that has CL football, but they would have to have e reasonable chance of success in that competition.I doubt that applies to us.
