It seems as though it’s a matter of when and not if Chelsea decides to move on from striker Romelu Lukaku after one season. The 28-year-old has struggled in his return to Stamford Bridge.
Lukaku’s name has surfaced with many clubs as he eyes a departure and one club connected to the Belgium international is Tottenham Hotspur due to the north London club having manager Antonio Conte at the helm.
Under Conte, Lukaku was one of the better strikers in Europe, helping Inter Milan win Serie A last season. However, he hasn’t been able to replicate that this year with Chelsea; as a result, rumors connect the two for a reunion, but an Italian journalist put some cold water on those reports.
“Until a few hours ago, he has been chatting with the management of Inter and with some important players in the squad. He said he is willing to return to the club’s engagement parameters. This is a fact,” Alfio Musmarra to Telelombardia (via FC Inter 1908).
“In England, he has no market; Tottenham does not make that type of investment in older players. But Inter can’t buy it; they can only work on a two-year loan. But Inter certainly can’t buy him.”
Meanwhile, another Belgium forward target that has been connected to Tottenham is Club Brugge striker Charles De Ketelaere; however, another Premier League club could be ready to swoop in on the 21-year-old. According to Calciomercato, Newcastle United is coming into the picture.
De Ketelaere has made 43 appearances in all competitions, scoring 18 goals and recording nine assists for Club Brugge this season.
