The 20-year-old defender was preferred to the benched Jan Vertonghen and Eric Dier for the visit of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

Mourinho’s preference for pace may also explain Davinson Sanchez’s recall after a few games out of the team. It looks as though the Colombian and Tanganga will flank Toby Alderweireld in a back five, and try to use their speed to limit the significant threat of Salah and Mane in the channels.
Sounds good, on paper. Salah and Mane are pretty good on grass, though.
