“It’s not over” – Hugo Lloris has faith Spurs can turn around EFL Cup semifinal tie against Chelsea

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur went into their first leg of the EFL Cup semifinal matchup against Chelsea, riding some momentum. Spurs went in winning three of their last four matches, hoping it would be enough to get a positive result at Stamford Bridge. However, that wasn’t the case.

Chelsea was able to get two goals in the first 35 minutes, and it was enough to secure the win. Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris spoke about what went wrong for the squad as they look to regroup for the second next week.

“The way we started the game allowed the opponent to believe and to put us in trouble,” Lloris said, whose words were relayed by Tribal Football

“The first half was the image of the lack of aggressiveness, but in the second half, we showed a good face – a lot of commitment from all the players. We took more risks, we created some good actions, and at the end, it’s 2-0 down, and there’s still one game to play.

Despite the 2-0 result, Lloris remains positive heading into the second seg, stating that the matchup isn’t over. Tottenham hopes that their home crowd will be enough to help them turn the result around.

“There is still an FA Cup game [against Morecambe] this weekend, but it’s not over. This is the message. We will need our fans behind us, and we’ll have to play an amazing game to turn qualification on our side,” Loris said.

Before the second leg match, Tottenham has an FA Cup match against Morecambe FC, which competes in League One, the third tier of the English football league system. Spurs will hope to carry some momentum from this match into their deciding leg against Chelsea.
