Arsenal ‘Invincibles’ legend Paul Merson is not the first person one thinks of when looking for upbeat comments on Tottenham, but there’s plenty of it around today.
Firstly, the Sky Sports pundit believes that Harry Kane to Bayern Munich is a suggestion that makes no sense whatsoever, and makes the point succinctly that moving to the Bundesliga would be a waste of the England captain having gotten so close to Alan Shearer’s Premier League goal-scoring record.
But what is also heartening, is that Merson believes that Spurs’ acquisition of James Maddison could only enhance Harry Kane’s chances of finding his 48-plus missing goals. In fact, the 55-year-old to Sky Sports that he dreads to think how many goals Kane could score with a dedicated provider.
Maddison certainly looks to be precisely what Jane needs and should make life much easier for all Spurs attacking players, even Richarlison who is now desperately in need of goals. Heung-min Son is another player who had a comparatively poor recent season but was carrying a hernia problem.
Angelos Postecoglou’s summer business looks to be only just getting underway with the much speculation surrounding the imminent signings of Edmond Tapsoba as well as Manor Solomon. Spurs’ back line still requires work and Spurs were recently linked with a move for the Torino defender Wilfried Singo.
