Gareth Bale’s return to Tottenham this season was hailed as a transfer masterclass, but he is struggling for form right now and the critics have started to crawl out of the woodwork to write him off.
Bale was one of the world’s most explosive players when he left Tottenham for Real Madrid in 2013 and he won every trophy in club football with the Spanish side.
Over the last two years, his relevance began to drop and Zinedine Zidane was blamed for his poor form.
The return to north London was seen as a move to revive him and he was expected to also help Spurs become a top team again.
However, the Welshman has continued to struggle this season and after another anonymous showing at the weekend, Roy Keane doesn’t think he will not get back to the form that Spurs fans may have hoped.
He was speaking on Sky Sports and he said that he doesn’t think Bale can return to the levels of a few years back.
The Irishman said as quoted by The Sun: “I don’t see him getting back to the level he was a few years ago.
“Top players, you’ve got to play week in and week out.
“With Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, and when Bale is at his best – we’re going back a few years now.
“I know he’s produced big moments in big moments – but he looks way off it.”
At the moment it looks like the best we can hope for from Bale is to get us a goal from the bench when we need one. It doesn’t look like he can play a full match. If Ali was producing what Bale is we’d be slaughtering him. Ndombele looked way off it yesterday too. We have too many passengers in the squad.

H I still don’t get the comment box on my Ipad hence my absence during the whole of yesterday’s match.Any suggestions?
Very expensive fairytale, eddie
Keane is absolutely right. It was a calculated risk by Levy, having more to do with shirt sales than anything else probably, especially with everything closed down by COVID.But considering the obscene amount of money he is pulling every week I expect more effort on the pitch than he showed retying his.head band.
I don’t think it is unreasonable for Levy to consider cutting short his loan spell next month. He has been with us long enough to have got his fitness levels up.If he is not showing Mourinho he’s fit for purpose in training,it’s not enough to get him just for nostalgia’s sake to have him bleeding the club every week for no return.
I wanted this deal to work out,but i’m sorry there is no place for sentimentality at this level. He can’t hack it in the PL anymore.
Too early to write him off but it is a colossal investment in wages and so far there has been very little return.
