The Premier League is a distraction in Tottenham’s quest for silverware

By Bruce Grove -

It was always going to be a long shot Tottenham winning the title and that is not to say it is still not possible but let’s be honest, it is unlikely to happen this season.

That is fine because that is not what most fans are desperate for, it is silverware, be that the Carabao Cup, Europa League, FA Cup or even the Premier League.

Finishing top-four is imperative and must be considered a minimum requirement but it is lifting a trophy that both the club and fans desire above all else.

Spurs have a fairly easy route to the Carabao Cup semi-finals in Stoke City, a game that the lads really should win in a canter and hopes are high that Jose Mourinho can guide us to that piece of silverware.

We are into the knockout stages of the Europa League with another comfortable draw and the FA Cup draw was as favourable as it gets.

It is very disappointing to lose in the Premier League, especially when we play poor but the dynamics have not changed, it is silverware that most fans want and if they get there playing awful football I am not sure most Spurs fans will care.

However, boring football without success is unacceptable, there is a price to pay for inflicting dreadful performances on the fans and that is trophies and there is also a price to pay if in return for awful football if we do not experience glory.

Mourinho has to be aware of that.

So expectations have been lowered very quickly. Last week we were going to win the League this week it’s top 4 and the hope of a cup.

Sadly Son was showboating a bit against Leicester – disappointed in that.

Win gritty to start with then try the ‘1 in 5 times successful’ flicks/dummies/etc

Get the CC under our belts, it’s the trophy a lot of successful Prem managers win first – it’ll give the lads a taste of winning something, I’d go all out for it at this stage even risking a league game the same week if needs must.

It’s time to win a pot, doesn’t matter which one to start with.

Stoke could be a banana skin if we’re not on it.They have become difficult to beat since Michael O’Neill took over and we have to show our players have what it takes to win at Stoke on a cold wet night Wednesday.I think Mourinho will put out a really strong side and hope if we get through that we draw Toon or Brentford in the semis.

Some of the players mentality is still weak, and more need shifted, they play some fine football and then are atop the Premier League and start believing how good they are.
Reality check swan about when you have won something not before. It’ll take another couple of windows to sort things. I expect more new recruits in January.

We were aiming high but having suffered successive defeats against Liverpool and Leicester realistically puts us out of title contention which I enjoyed the unexpected thought of us winning the PL title whilst it lasted. Unless we win the Carabeo Cup, which I feel is our best hope of winning the PL title. I sense it’s going to be yet another trophyless season knowing that we shall probably slip up at some point I can’t see us winning either the FA Cup and Ropey Cup respectively.

I disagree with all due respect you have to aim always high I don’t like the mentality of aiming low, the players we have at this moment can go all the way to win the PL and we proved we can play top football and win the big games so why aim low win the biggest Cups and you will silence the critics forever thanks.
