How Tottenham Are Showing Support For The NHS Tonight

By Joe Fish -

The country is more reliant on the NHS right now than it ever has been.

More reliant than Tottenham were on Gareth Bale in the 2012-13 season.

To show our appreciation for the doctors, nurses and many other staff who are risking their lives on the front line to help battle the coronavirus, a Clap For Our Carers Campaign is being organized for 8 pm this Thursday.

As The Independent details, “the organisers behind the event are asking that as many people as possible get involved by applauding either outdoors or through open windows at the designated time for workers in the NHS.”

Tottenham are doing their bit by lighting the stadium up blue in tribute to the blue of the NHS. We couldn’t do that at the old White Hart Lane…

A statement on the club website read: “The club will tonight proudly illuminate its stadium in blue colours as part of a nationwide show of support for our wonderful NHS,” read a statement from Tottenham.

“At 8 pm, people across the country are being encouraged to join in a mass round of applause for those that are on the front line of the COVID-19 pandemic as part of the #ClapForOurCarers campaign.

“Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will join iconic buildings across the UK in being illuminated in NHS blue, with The O2, Wembley Stadium, and the Royal Albert Hall also amongst those taking part in the #LightItBlue initiative as a further show of appreciation.”

It is not the first time Spurs have recognised the NHS during this crisis. Earlier this week, the club nominated four local hospitals as its “idols” in another time-killing Twitter exercise while the live-action is paused.

It’s not much, but hopefully, there are some Spurs fans among those NHS workers that see this and get a second – or third – wind to keep on grinding.
