Antonio Conte was reportedly aware of Manchester United’s desire to hire Mauricio Pochettino when he was being linked with a possible move to Old Trafford.
Conte obviously ended up at Spurs instead, and The Athletic suggest that he wasn’t so keen on the Red Devils job precisely because he felt that he was not their preferred target over Pochettino.
It will be interesting to see how this pans out for Man Utd, with Conte in some ways the more proven and experienced winner at the highest level.
While Pochettino clearly did hugely impressive work in his time in charge of Tottenham, he never won silverware with the club, whereas Conte has league titles with spells at Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan.
Spurs fans will surely be happy to have someone of his calibre on board now, whereas United are still not guaranteed to get Poch anyway due to his current contract situation with Paris Saint-Germain.
Too many egos at utd, not helped with the arrival of Ronaldo, thats the main problem there.
Got us clicking though, job done!! 😂
Useless, just like Chelsea’s manager, who PSG sacked… 😂
Seems to be a rapidly shrinking pool of top managers worldwide.
Shows how far the “greatest club in the world” has fallen that top managers aren’t exactly falling over themselves to manage them.
Prestige, they are still probably one of the top 5 jobs in football. He’s on borrowed time at PSG so better for brand Poch to jump before pushed!
When you think of a situation you have to think of the drivers (I dont mean car obvs.)
You have to ask why Pochettino would go to Manchester Utd.
Money?
Chance to build a team and win trophies?
Weather?
Links to the club?
Not sure Rodgers recent results with Leicester will endear him much to Utd.
He needs Levy to break the habit of a lifetime and support his manager.
Yeah Mourinho won everything in the game too but how did his tenure at Spurs go? In fact the little bald assassin fired him before a final to save money which tells you quite clearly where Daniel Levy’s allegiance lies – to his wallet. If you’re one of the Levy loving pricks floating around here like a virus then by all means prove it and downvote this post!
Conte is a world class manager, but make no bones about it he needs support in the transfer market to be that. He can’t win trophies on his character alone.
Neither do I feel that after 5 years of Levy that he’s in the mood to be a ‘yes man’ at a club that need fundamental changes to its ‘MO’. Secondly, just because Pochettino had said that he admired Ferguson doesn’t mean that he’s got some idea that he wants to to to Utd and emulate him. Managers don’t work that way anymore and least so at a club like Utd…
If I was fan of Utd.I would be very worried if the news is correct that Woodward is thinking of putting back his departure to help usher in the new yes man. After all he is the main reason Utd .find themselves in their current position.
I’m not convinced Poch would be the man to take them back to their best.
Conte is top draw. He now needs the players to move us forward.
More supposition and theory. I don’t think Utd wanted Conte because they want a yes man to Woodward and the owners. Perhaps they feel Pochettino fits the bill better.
However, I don’t see Utd ending up with Pochettino and neither do I feel that either party are as interested in linking up as is being made out. My hunch is that they’ll go with Rodgers. Who incidentally was the first name out of the rumour hat, even before Ollie left. Makes great copy though, Pochettino to Utd, does it suit him or PSG? I rather think not…
He’s magic you know…. All that talent and he couldn’t beat a City side who really had nothing to play for. Not forgetting losing a 1-0 lead.
The Athletic are full of Bull these days, last week they suggested Conte was keeping the seat warm for Poch’s return in 18 months time. That’s like The Rolling Stones opening for Bon Jovi. I would imagine a big factor in Conte joining Spurs was his great working relationship with Paratici.
Hahahahahaha…. What a load of obvious made up bull. 😂😂😂
Agreed. United seem to be run by absolute mugs these days. As Jamie Carragher said, how could they let a 5 star elite manager like Conte slip through the net? Their loss, our gain. I still cant believe he’s ours. COYS
