How much trust is there in Levy & Mourinho To Rebuild Spurs?|opinion

By Bruce Grove -

In all fairness to Jose, he has to be given more time and some trust to make the right decisions and of course, a lot will depend on how much room he is given to manoeuvre by Daniel Levy.

However, looking at some of the players that are being linked with a move to Tottenham my confidence is low and I am not filled with enthusiasm.

For starters, there is Willian, a player that will be 32 when the new season is scheduled to kick-off, a player I personally despise and never want to see in a Tottenham top.

Just today I have seen Inter Milan’s Diego Godin being touted as a potential signing.

Godin is 34 and while he was once a very good defender do you really see him being a success in the Premier League? I do not.

There are others that one could describe as aged but it is not just the senior citizens I am concerned about, there are others, for example, Vedat Muriqi, Ryan Fraser, and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Now, don’t get me wrong, these are talented individuals but only up to a certain level, not to the level that Tottenham should be targetting. Put it this way, teams like Man City and Liverpool are not exactly lining up to sign these sorts of players, are they?

All the players I have named do smack of being the sort of signings that Jose would go in for, hopefully, I am wrong but I have this feeling that I am not and that future signing will not be inspiring.

The bottom line is that I do lack trust in Mourinho and Levy to get it right.

Willian, Godin, Rakitic, Pike, Godfrey and Mainwaring. Get them all in. Surely, it can’t get any worse…….can it? My only consolation is just imagine what the West Ham fans are like. Our goose is well and truly cooked, but theirs is up for cremation.

If we sold Kane the only way we would revert back to the 90s is if the money was misspent. Enter stage right: Daniel Levy!

William? No chance. Can’t see it. Quality instead of quantity. Remember the Bale money? Misfits from here there and everywhere. People are on the brink. Money will be tight now.

A left back and right back needed.. A cdm warrior is needed.. A striker is needed.. Mertens on a free would be perfect he could lead the line. He could play alongside kane and also instead of… If Ndombuttocks wants to stay and prove himself then fair play. I have written him off though if barca want him then let him go. Rakitic, willian, anyone else with quality like Godin would improve our squad, gives more arrows to maureens bow, more tools for him to use. I would love super jan to stay.

The thing is, players will talk. If he’s even thinking of going the players will know. To be honest, it’s probably why there’s already so much noise about it in the papers – cos those in the game know what’s going on and it only takes on person to leak it.

Well I suppose miracles do happen, look at Leicester, but I won’t get my hopes up.

The reason City and Liverpool don’t go after the players you mention is because they look for quality to win them things and are prepared to pay.
The players you mention are the standard of player we will go for because they won’t cost top dollar and won’t want top dollar.
Mourinho is known to like older experienced players and would see the recruitment of several to achieve some short term gain. However his is a limited marriage of convenience.

As long as Kane stays I think the club can cling onto a perception it is still going places. He is a totemic figure who enhances the stature and allure of spurs. If he goes I think the image and self-image of the club would shrink and fans’ expectations would quickly revert back to what they were in the 90s and 2000s.
