Speaking to Sky Sports, Antonio Rudiger revealed that he was close to joining Spurs in the last transfer window, and even had a call with coach José Mourinho to discuss the possibility of a move.
Tottenham have had their problems with Rudgier in the past, of course, and the accusations of racist noises in the home crowd, about which, extensive investigations revealed nothing.
The first thing that this tells us is that the Portuguese was deeply uncomfortable at the thought of Tottenham’s back-line as it was, that even a deeply controversial character such as Rudiger would have been an improvement.
I take a view that the 28-year-old would have made a significant improvement to the squad and helped eliminate some of the catastrophic errors that we’ve had to endure.
Some 5 months ago, The Athletic came out and said that Rudiger’s concern was that Spurs fans would have never forgiven him for the accusation and that it wouldn’t have worked.
Reacting to the Sky interview online this week, fans reacted to the story…
Glad we didn’t get him.
And he’s no longer with us !
Yep. Willian went for the bigger wages obviously.
Stephen Hawking is better than Dier.
Why would he even consider it after the “racial abuse”??
Some Boards are reluctant to do any biz with Spurs one is Chelsea the other is West Ham with the owners seething at the time over the Adebayour fiasco!!
Exactly which is why being favourite to join Spurs the Chelsea owner exacted sweet revenge by snatching Willian at the last moment!!
When was the last occasion Chelski did any biz with Spurs??
William Gallas, Cuddicini on a free??
. Romàn hates levy. I think it’s coz of modric. He can play though. Strong, tackle timing is excellent. Can ping it too. reads the game well. All day long I’d have him.
Pretty much sums it up. They would never have sold to us.
Rudiger said his preferred option was a move to PSG – so if he had left Chelsea it was most likely for Paris and not Tottenham High Road, even if Chelsea were prepared to sell him to us. Yes he would have been an upgrade on Sanchez and Dier and played more often than Rodon (remember him?), but it was never likely to happen.
Good morning tottenham. What a beautiful morning to be alive and free. Count your blessings everyone and make your blessings count.
He is right I hate the mug for his “hearing voices” shite but he is 80% better than Dier.
