Jurgen Klopp has hailed Jose Mourinho for making Spurs a “result machine” since he was made the club’s manager.
Mourinho took the job at a time when the team was struggling so badly that it led to the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino.
Spurs had reached the final of the Champions League in 2019, but the beginning of last season was a terrible one for them as they made one of their worst starts to a season in all competitions.
Mourinho managed to take them from outside the top ten to a European position at the end of the campaign.
They have built on that fine end to last season, and they are currently top of the Premier League table ahead of their match with Liverpool this evening.
They have also reached the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup and the round of 32 of the Europa League.
Klopp has watched Mourinho make Tottenham great again and he was full of praise for the Portuguese manager in his pre-match press conference.
‘I’m not surprised (that people question Mourinho) because that’s the world we are living in,’ said Klopp via Daily Mail.
‘You are very successful until yesterday. And if you cannot prove it today, then people go for you. I don’t think he was surprised at that. But he showed comeback skills.
‘It’s very impressive what they did at Tottenham, the way they played this year is really good. He turned them into a results machine. They have good performances and if they are not on top form they still win. They defend collectively, very impressive.
‘At all times when you play against Tottenham, it’s clear that you have to make sure that Harry Kane is not too much involved in the game, which is difficult. With Son Heung-min it’s the same, and the working relationship they have at the moment, it clicked properly.’
