“He needs players” – Jamie Redknapp calls for Daniel Levy to back Antonio Conte

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur fell for a third time this month to Chelsea, the latest coming this past weekend with The Blues earning a 2-0 result. Manager Antonio Conte got a large sample size as to what it takes to get Spurs up to standard with a team that’s won the UEFA Champions League.

During a segment on Sky Sports (via Daily Mail), pundit Jamie Redknapp thinks Conte may leave the north London club soon unless he is backed in the final days of the transfer window.

“He needs players. There must have been an agreement between him and Daniel Levy they’d bring in the players he needs,” Redknapp said. He’s done a great job to get in this position.”

“There’s a massive gulf between Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea, and the rest you can see it. Tottenham are so close to get into the top four, no other manager could have done in this position, but he needs backing; he needs to get players in.”

Redknapp emphasized the need for chairman Daniel Levy to support the Italian tactician by bringing players into the club. Conte has helped steer the ship in the right direction despite the slow start to their season, where they’re now fighting for a top-four spot.

“Two, three, four players in, and he’s got nine days in the window to do it. Daniel Levy is a difficult man for managers to deal with,” Redknapp said.

“If you don’t back (Conte), you look at his history with Inter Milan; I think he’ll leave the club because you can’t promise and then not deliver.”

Tottenham is fighting with West Ham United, Manchester United, and Arsenal for one spot, and improving a weakness could be a deciding factor whether they keep up with the other three clubs in this race.

Seats already paid for by season ticket so the club won’t be bothered short term.

Just been reading we are top of the empty seats charts (8,284 per game or £165k).

I was disappointed the open top balance sheet parade has been cancelled this year due to mounting debts but perhaps we could have a parade for topping the empty seats league?

I would argue that Aurier put in a shift and cared about the team. He was also a much better RB than any of the noddies we have now. Of course his achilles heel was his ability to lose his head and get booked, sent off and give away pens. I’m sure Tanganga is morphing into the same type of player but without the ability to cross and score goals like Aurier did.

Agreed. On the incoming it’s a struggle to identify any recent good acquisitions, by which I mean those who play for the shirt and the team, put in a shift and win over the supporters with consistently high quality performances. The list of those who do not meet those standards is lengthy from Aurier to Doherty, Ndombele to LoCelso, Emerson to Gollini. Romano looks OK but is yet to have a run. Gil is not quite ready for this league imho. Reguillon is a bit hit and miss. Rodon hasn’t been given a chance. It’s a mess. On the outgoing side there’s Dele who should have gone a couple of years ago. There’s Winks, there’s Davies.

Conte will go if Levy does not get him the players he wants. Either get the right quality players to be a top club, or do not and lose every Chelsea game. If this situation does not change, Conte will walk, and Spurs will have a hard time to find another like him.

If he isn’t backed this window then effectively we’ve revealed our intention was to hire a ‘Luxury Big Sam’ to at least see out this season.

If we’d kept Nuno…well, you see Everton and where they are? They’d have another neighbour right now if he’d remained in his post.

The main aim was to make sure we didn’t stay in a prolonged relegation fight. I’m not totally convinced Levy or the board are looking beyond that right now…

I think the most telling comment that Conte made yesterday was saying that “the quality of the squad over the last 5 years has decreased”
He is absolutely right. We have always bought cheap and therefore we end up buying twice. However, when we did make a significant investment in Ndombele, we got this oh so wrong.
So, our recruitment and squad churn is awful. No shocking news there..

The real worry is that Conte has already stated VERY publicly that it will take years to turn Tottenham into a competitive team. Years!
This is coming from a man who barely has a year left on his current contract.

Levy can finally let Dele & Ndombele go this January but the damage has already been done. Conte will walk rather than let Levy sack him. This i am certain about. He spoke about 4 months to get as high up the table as possible. I believe Conte will work as had as he can to do this but i struggle to believe he will stick around next season to see the benefits..

Levy is a serial liar who forgets his previous lies and contradicts himself.

Where’s the supposed £60m we bid for Martinez in the summer? What a load of rubbish that was, that was all about selling season tickets by Levy. I’ve come to the conclusion Levy is a compulsive lier. He stiffed Kane, now he’s doing the same to Conte. Levy, Lewis & ENIC OUT!!

Levy needs to start backing Antonio Conte now, he needs nothing but quality signings, if they aren’t of top quality don’t bother, save your money and leave, simple as that.

They all said “Conte wouldn’t have joined without promises of being supported in the transfer market”. Well we’re 24 days into the January window and Levy can’t bring himself to spend a measly £20m on Traore to support his manager. Sounds to me like there may have been verbal promises of support but they weren’t put in writing.
To put £20m into context, by comparison to the takings from the stadium events, the game tickets, merchandise sales etc. that is a tiny return. Levy is basically sticking 2 fingers up at the fans and saying that every single penny is going into the enic coffers and not being invested in the team unless he can get his pathetic discounts. Shameful. The little bar steward is still in total control.
