Martin Samuel Suggests Leftfield Kane Move

By The Boy -

The Mail Online‘s Martin Samuel makes a compelling if an unorthodox case for Harry Kane to move to Chelsea. Gasps and hurled beer mats to one side, the fit is not as unimaginable as it sounds. Tuchel has brought order and purpose to what looked like a directionless vanity project under Lampard.

Options for Kane – if he is inclined to finally turn his back on Daniel Levy’s business model – have as Samuel suggests – become increasingly limited. Money is tight in Spain and ironically, it is arguably the unsellable and expensive to home Gareth Bale that is tying up a large chunk of change Real Madrid might wish to put towards an offer.

The biggest obstacle is the gut-wrenching feeding of selling to a direct rival, which is another point one might want to examine. Tottenham doesn’t have a rich vein of form for finishing above Chelsea. Indeed, all our best players that Levy has sold went to more successful clubs. Using the last decade as a yardstick, then Chelsea has more in common with Real Madrid than Tottenham does.

I take a view that there isn’t a destination on Earth that would be good, there is no way of dressing that up. For Levy, it would be a deeply unpalatable suggestion. For Kane, it could be the opportunity that his competitive edge has been crying out for.

He’s looked at numbers without paying attention. Looking at the stats Abraham delivers when he starts. He has had to play second fiddle to Werner and Havertz and has still out scored them. Anyone worth their salt knows Jorginho scores penalties, an absolute nonsense comparison. I don’t mind a debate as long as common sense is brought to the table.

Money does talk you’re right, but I wouldn’t sell him for 200 million. He is irreplaceable…. What will 150mil buy us? Tanguy cost 80mil, thats not enough to buy two Tanguys.. If we want to win titles we keep Kane. Anyone else will be a downgrade.

I can see another Bale splurge by Levy bringing in a lot of sub par cheapies. Not the way to do it, just get a couple of really good players and build the team around them over a period. No more punts, spend less often but spend more on each player. Probably the exact opposite of how baldy operates being market wallah.

Ain’t going to happen. Levy would never sell our star to that lot in a million years. Even he has a smidgeon of honour when it comes to our hated rivals. Rule both blue and red scum out of this one.

In the 9 league games he has started this season he has 6 goals and 2 assists. This is a lad who is not the finished article and we wont be able to buy ‘finished articles’ by the way for quite some time (not that we have ever bought them, Klinsmann is the last I can think of), so if you have better options let me hear them.

No idea where the relevance of Wilson, Maupay or Jorginho comes from, but while you were bothered to respond: All 3 are regular starters, unlike Abraham. You need to compare like for like not pull random names out of a scrabble bag. I would have taken Wilson ahead of Vinicius any day as a second striker. He still has scored 1 in 2 this season for a poor attacking team. Jorginho scores his goals from penalties, so not such a great example to compare, but I would take him too in midfield ahead of Ndom.

This has a look of someone putting the feelers out from behind the scenes. The game is changing, FFP rules will change quite remarkable pretty soon following recent European super league talks and restructuring leagues talk. Money will be able to be spent freely which will put us even more at odds of how the winning teams operate. Could it happen, not likely (Lilly is the operative world) but money talks and the debt driven by our operating company could do with that cash flow as Harry is a depreciating asset on the squads financial sheet.
Also don’t bank on Kane sticking around just out of blind loyalty, he is a highly focused sportsman which is evident in the way his game has evolved over the last decade, but he now has less playing days ahead of him than behind him. He will move if the benefits of staying are shorter on his personal balance sheet.

I think the two clubs just won’t deal with each other. Which is why I can’t see Kane ever going there.

To be honest, I didn’t realise until I checked to see if we paid a fee for him.

Interestingly (to me anyway) Chelsea were the only team to pay for his services (£8m) he usually left on a free.

21 in 56 PL appearances total.

6 this year in 20 PL appearances.

12 in 30 this year in all competitions.

Neal Maupay has 8 PL goals in 28 appearances
Callum Wilson (largely injured) 10 in 21
Michail Antonio has 7 in 21
Jorginho has 6 in 21

Should we be going for these players as well?

Its to City if it happens. Havent worked out how many barrels of crude oil it would take but it wont be a problem.

If I were City it would definitely be Haarland as he would be cheaper and have years ahead of him and lets face it, City havn’t really suffered in the absence of Aguero.

Also supposedly there are hefty payments for Raiola as well as Haaland’s father involved in any deal for Erling. Pay c. 100M for the player AND some 25-30M extra to those two, plus large wages?

He is pretty damn good, but I would still pick Kane. With his constant desire for self-improvement, I can imagine him playing at the top-level for six or seven more years, maybe more.

If Kane left I wouldn’t begrudge him. Football has changed so much and the difference in spending power of of those clubs owned as vanity projects by bond villains and everyone else is huge. Not only has it really dented my enjoyment of football, it has to change expectations of what we can spend and what it is possible to achieve. The fact we think it’s ok for the royal family from another Country to buy our best player for their little PR exercise of a football team just makes me care less about this crap.

Liverpool and ManU operate on a different level because of their global popularity. We can’t compete with them for players they want, but at least we don’t sell ManU our best player every couple of years anymore. Clubs like Everton have seen their wages double in the past 5 years under their current billionaire owner, Leicester are not the humble little team they pretend to be either – and have had scrapes with financial fair play just like City. Arsenal have paid their stadium off but they bring in similar amounts of money – so long term rather than laughing at them unfortunately that is where we are destined unless we have an approach and philosophy that brings in more success than the amount of money we spend.

City (and Chelsea to a lesser extent) are another matter. Who could resist selling a world class player ages 28 for over 100 million when their team needs rebuilding?

ENIC or not our financial situation doesn’t change. To stay up there among these teams when we have built a new stadium and don’t have open cheque books means being smart and adopting different approaches.

The Southampton approach we stole from them worked really well, almost won the league, almost won the Champions league. The Red Bull approach also seems very effective. We aren’t going to be challenging for the league every single year, we can’t on the money we can afford to put in, and with having to bed in younger players and sell on experienced ones for a profit.

Long winded way of saying – keeping Kane isn’t fair to him and we need the money to rebuild.

Agreed about Kane. We are in a position though where we will be fortunate to have players like Abraham. I don’t think he’s a world beater, but look where we are. Even with Kane we are fumbling around 6th and we are not replacing like for like in a million years. We are no longer a good 4th place bet, we are back to being outsiders. Although Dybala and Fernandes didn’t happen, being in Ch Lg didn’t make it unrealistic. Now, players like that are a lunatics dream.

21 Premier League goals in 54 games at 23 years old and with being a sub for the most part says this lad has something more than a mid table striker. Unless we have a major change in fortune we are back to developing a squad that can compete in the top 4 again. We won’t be able to attract top 4 players because we can’t offer Ch Lg, not that we did when we were in the top 4. When Kane leaves someone is needed to fill his boots. I’d go with a lad who has a point to prove.

Slow news day .. One of our own,IF he stays in the PL will go to City. I keep hearing Haarland is a better deal for City but the big difference is one of own has PL experience and with Aguero possibly moving on they will want a ready made replacement.

eddie

Kane to Chelsea I would be amazed if he even considered it and we wouldn’t want Abrahams in the deal as he’s so over-rated.

City would realistically offer him the best chances of silverware. But he would be Aguero’s age in 4 years whereas Haarland,if they could do the deal would give them 12 years probably.

Good as he is Kane probably should have made this move a couple of years ago.Just going for personal records at Spurs will leave him with regrets in later life I am sure. He’s better than that and deserves more.

I would be disappointed in him if his personal ambitions didn’t lead him to look for honours elsewhere.

No it wouldn’t. Abraham will be a mid table striker in the next few years.

I have doubts that Chelsea can afford Kane unless they sell heavily. I cannot see any ground breaking transfers this summer – I just don’t see who has the money to spend.

If He leaves, regardless of who to, it will probably mean one of those rare exchange deals plus cash.

The outcry would echo round the new stadium louder than any Guns’n’Roses gig and if it signals the end of ENIC’s tenure it’s a sacrifice I would find acceptable

Chelsea are miles off City at the moment so going there certainly doesn’t guarantee trophies. However Tuchel does generally seem to know what he’s doing. Consequently it will be interesting to see whether Chelsea can beat Man City in the FA Cup and/or win (God forbid) the Champions League. Logically City are the only option in England but Kane wouldn’t play every game and may not even be ‘the main man’. PSG should guarantee trophies but how exciting would the French league be to Kane? Partnering then replacing Lewandowski is a decent option as is a move to the revitalised Spanish giants. He certainly has options, but I would be staggered if it involved Chelsea. Staying at Tottenham with an exciting young manager/coach might appeal. Jimmy Greaves is an absolute legend at Tottenham and won 3 trophies; as is Gary Mabbutt who won 2. Becoming the top scorer in the PL and in Tottenham’s history might be enough for him especially if England win the Euros (or maybe I’m just dreaming ……….)

Kane knows enough that he won’t do that. There’s not even a guarantee Chelsea will finish 4th. Liverpool will be taking one of the places so unless Leicester bottle it Chelsea will be a Thursday night team too.

On summin else, how long before Levy has little THFC convid test kits with each season ticket?? For a extra few quid of course….
Now they are saying that if you do get to go on holiday you have to PAY to get a useless PCR procedure!? These dogs are making out like bandits from the dopey general public. After so so many got jabbed up just so they could go on holiday, not only do they then prevent you going abroad, if you do get to go you must shell out for a “test”. Hahaha! Laughing all the way to the bank with their mates. Wake up…. this ain’t about public safety. Never was. If anyone still thinks it is give ya head a wobble.

Can only be City, from Harry’s point of view, if they are prepared to spend the cash. He’d be almost guaranteed Premier League winner’s medals.

No Spurs fan would want Kane to leave to that bunch so moving abroad would be a more welcome outcome, like Bale and Modric.

There should be enough clubs who Kane can go to without involving Chelsea. But, if he were to move there, would involving Tammy Abraham in to the deal be worthwhile?

Chelsea have been to public in the past about heavily inflating prices if they sell anyone to Spurs (or just outright saying they wouldn’t sell a player to Spurs) for this to happen.

Cannot see it. Interesting comments from McManaman this morning, essentially urging Kane to stay if he’s happy, but in the same breath Football Insider have run a story saying close friends have said he is “100 per cent prepared to leave”
