Joachim Andersen Is Not The Grade Of Player Spurs Should Be Buying At This Time|opinion

By The Boy -

I have a number of concerns about Andersen being linked with a move to Tottenham [£] and perhaps by seeking to substantiate them, you can tell me what you think. One factor to consider is the momentum that comes with the suggestion of most transfers into Tottenham. This is usually extremely positive as comparatively speaking we don’t make as many signings and the idea of signing anyone who appears to be physically intact and is registered as a professional player somewhere is normally enough to get the mob’s juices flowing. Clinton N’Jie would not unkindly but easily fall into that category.

Joachim Anderson

Andersen is suddenly the talk of the town and my first question has to be why? Beyond the straightforward business of the suggestion that Spurs might be interested in the 24-year-old.

If we look at his transfer track record via Sofa Score there’s a huge alarm bell in that he rocked the world during his time at Sampdoria and went from a player valued at €1.5million to one that Olympique Marseilles paid €24million for. But then…

Joachim Anderson

Shortly after making this acquisition – in the next summer window – the French side loaned the Dane out to Fulham, where his performances might again – not unkindly – be described as uninspiring.

Eric Dier

Context as ever is our friend, and if we look at Eric Dier, who has played so unsatisfactorily that the Tottenham coach has opted not to select the Englishman recently.

Toby Alderweireld

And if we look at Toby Alderweireld, Joachim isn’t performing as well as the Belgian, either.

So my conclusion is that Spurs would then be looking to buy a player that is not an improvement on what we have, and that isn’t working to the right level.

This will undoubtedly trigger footballing experts who can solemnly assure us that moving from Fulham will reinvigorate the boy. So I pose this reply. Are Spurs at a point where they ought to ‘take a punt’, or are Spurs looking for someone that can actually arrive and improve us?

I don’t know I as I never ever watch games and only started following this lot during a lockdown, in order to tell people I have a hobby. You tell me.

You can’t just look at champions league form in isolation. Going into that final one side was playing better than the other and Liverpool had played better than us all season comfortably beating us twice which would have boosted their confidence. You mention athletico and Chelsea. Well athletico maybe top but their form has fallen off a cliff while Chelsea are on a long unbeaten run so that result was no surprise.
Anyway it will be a very long time if ever that Thfc will find themselves in a Ecl final

I mean I can’t get you in some way what is the league form have to do with Champions league final game? you kept on repeating league form can you imagine a team who ends up winning the champions league can be down in their league and Vice versa you can be number one in your League and you can be knocked out of Champions league look now Atlético Madrid are number 1 in Spain and they are out of champions league knocked out by Chelsea which is where in the PL no 4 or 5, some how you kept on trying to link a final game of champions league with a league position or form for god’s sake they have nothing to do with each other cheers.

It would have been an upset because of the form of both clubs going into that game. Liverpool were on an amazing winning streak whilst we, without Harry, were struggling. Have a look back at the league results of both clubs going into the match.
I quite agree our route to the final was thrilling but we rode our luck. If the match went to form, in my view, there was only one winner. If we had won I agree it wouldn’t have been the greatest shock of all time.
Getting to that finatsking into account the competition was in my view a miracle especially when handicapped by having to play home matches at a neutral venue and having a tw@t of the highest order as a chairman.

I agree the last part of your comment but I disagree the 1st part why it would have been an upset if we had won? that game if we outperformed and played well that night and won the game I don’t see any problem with that, we were playing fantastic football ourselves in that champion’s league rounds remember we were so close to be eliminated in the group stage with Barcelona Inter Milan and PSV and then we beat in round16 Dortmund then we beat Man City then Ajax that is how we came to the final and both of Liverpool and Spurs were almost out against Barcelona and Ajax what a season it was the most exciting time recently even vs City we were almost out we were sensational that Champions league so I can’t understand what was so upsetting about us in that season.

I thought Anderson looked very good in both games against us. We were linked when he was at sampdoria and he now has prem experience. It seems unlikely levy will splash out on a top cb so we have to go for this type of player and hope he steps up. Reminds me of the alderwiereld situation when we got him off atleti after a successful loan to Southampton.
Seems crazy we spent all that money on Sanchez! 2nd priority is at least 1 right back. Top teams always have excellent full backs.

No I posted twice. What I was implying is that there was/is a gulf in class between the two sides and that it would be an upset if we had won that final. It would require us to play above ourselves and them to underperform in all probability. In truth both sides underperformed in a poor match and they got a goal start from the Sissoko penalty.

Am I discussing with 2 Bertoliver? I thought you agreed with me anyway that night if you watched the game Liverpool were not world beaters they had a penalty and they did not score till 87th minute so basically Spurs were at the game till that moment, when I said Liverpool was at the taking at that night I was talking about a particular game and a particular final I was not referring any final so you can’t say my analogy, in general finals are one off game and anything can happen most predictions are City favourites I know that but can you say definitely Spurs have no chance to win the league cup final off course not I believe any team that shows up that game and plays well can win that final regardless of what they done the whole season or their form before that final game cheers.

Well I’m not sure what your point is. Agreed cup finals are one off events but more often than not go with form and the season performance of both clubs suggested which side was the better team and most likely to win.
By your analogy the League Cup Final is there for the taking although the bookmakers see it differently.
In regard to the Kane situation we were not playing great football prior to the final and clearly missing our talisman. Liverpool too had the same quandary with Firmino who they rushed for the final having missed several matches prior to the final, all of which they won

good questions about the criteria their manager failed almost six attempts to win a final before that night, the year before they lost the final too that’s the start then it took them to score the second goal till 87th minute and that shows Spurs were still in the game till that moment and in general finals are one off game any team can win in that game mainly it has nothing to do what you done your league and cups and your second question yes if I was a manager I would have never started with Kane any expert person of football will tell you the team where playing fantastic football without Kane and they had that moment and they made to the final without him, in general football you never disrupt a formula and a team that have winning momentum hope that clears cheers.

By what criteria was the champions league final there for the taking? We were playing a side who got 97 points in the season, lost once, beat us twice and finished 26 points ahead of us.
If you’d been manager would you really have said to Harry you are not in team and replaced him with Lucas? Hindsight is a wonderful thing and I doubt would have made any difference.
At the end of that season we had a team on its knees due to no preseason because of the 2018 World Cup and no investment due to Daniel money does guarantee success Levy

Everyone wants quality experienced CBs at the club in the summer.Sadly these would cost the kind of money Levy is just not prepared to spend.

So it’s being realistic to consider the likes of Andersson and Westergaard. They play together in a Danish side which is doing very well at the moment.

In the games I have seen them play they are solid defenders and Andersson in particular is a leader on the pitch and has a good range of passing and is good defensively.

This is the level of player we are loking at,price wise until ENIC ride off into the sunset and new owners come in who care about improving the team.

Besides Skriniar is about to win the Scudetto and will be in the CL next season, why would he come to us?

The manager has wanted Skriniar for the past 2 transfer windows. Our illustrious Chairman targets Anderson. It was forever thus at Spurs. Ask for Armani, get a Primark substitute. Not even for £15m pa would I manage anything owned and run by ENIC.

This smells like another Levy bargain bin buy. Liverpool and City have both shown this is a position where you need class and have to pay for it, particularly if you want someone who can play accurate long balls out of defense. City turned their season around by signing Dias and Liverpool saw theirs evaporate with the injury to VVD. Anyone costing less than 40m won’t cut it.

Yep agreed with you on that one re CL final. Not that it may have made any difference but instead of Poch going with his head and playing Moura he predictably went with his heart by playing Kane which badly backfired. In 1966 Sir Alf Ramsey made a big call playing Hurst over Greaves. A massive call but the correct one!!

Yep just ask the great jump jockey Richard Johnson who has recently announced his retirement after a distinguished career of 3,800 winners when before we went onto win the jockey title 4 years in succession after the legendary A P McCoy (4,000 + winners) retired he finished runner up to McCoy in the jump jockey race 16 times in succession which must be a record in any sport!!

Robertson was snapped up from Hull City for a modest figure!

I’m scared even if we get Ronaldo Messi Mbappe and Neymar with Guardiola or Mourinho or Zidane still they may not win us anything now that is doomsday scenario.

That Liverpool team had Robertson and Henderson too. Bargains. VVD and Alisson were just the missing parts (bought mainly through outgoing transfers too), but Southampton only paid about £15m for him. Just because he didn’t win anything at Southampton doesn’t make him any less of a player. Look at Kane, the lad has won nothing apart from individual accolades.

We had Dembele, Jan, Toby, Eriksen, Walker, Rose (all bought wisely), and along came a once in a generation player in Kane, but Levy wouldn’t go that extra mile and push us over the line. Poch wanted Mane, he even came to the club, but Liverpool offered bigger wages. We had a team that was one of the best XIs in Europe, we just needed a better squad. This was our golden generation and in my opinion Levy caused us to come up short. We were so close, but now that means nothing.

This period in our history will cause pain to every Spurs fan to the end of our days. At the time though, there wasn’t a better CB partnership than our 2 Belgians. They may well have won nothing with us, but they still have winners medals in their lockers from other teams.

This is the question for you then in your logic VVD 2 seasons he won the champion league and the PL, without breaking the bank what the Alderweireld’s and Vertonghen’s of this world won? please do not make Leicester as example that happens once in a blue moon unless you want Spurs to be that category of yo-yo clubs like Leicester.

He’s only played a handful of games for us, so far too early to tell, but I think he will come good. My concern was that Sanchez and Dier were preferred to him!

A relegated defender is just the kind of player Levy would go for hoping to snaffle a bargain. Hes the right age too. Anderson has looked ok and Fulham have been competitive without receiving any major hidings but this lad is Europa league standard at best. Levy has dragged some fans down to his level, last year it was fans championing Jack O Connell from Sheff U. I’d much prefer we go for Konza but of course Villa will want big boy money for him.

Agreed, but we have never been able to payout like the bigger teams. VVD was highly touted at Celtic, but only Southampton took the punt. That is premiership snobbery for you. Good recruitment can find the Alderweireld’s and Vertonghen’s of this world though and the bank does not have to be broken.

Rodon, I would definitely keep, but for me he needs an experienced head next to him. He has too many mistakes in him which need ironing out. He has not fully convinced me yet, but with the small amount of game time he has had no wonder. He should have stayed at Swansea on a loan basis. No better way to learn your trade than to play.

Sam Johnstone looks to be a good keeper, we definitely need one.

We need a leader in the back 4

through all the chaos and finger pointing ( gotta love Robbie Keane) we have the 3rd best GA per game record in the premier league .

perhaps trust in Jose to bring in the right leader/C backs ? ( that leaves a sick taste in the back of my throat)

I don’t necessarily look at whether a team is top/middle/bottom. A team is a collective and individuals can stand out in a poor team and may flatter to deceive in a good team. Godfrey last season at Norwich looked the part in a defensively inept team, whilst VVD was hardly the world’s best defender at Southampton. TAA at Liverpool has never been a great defender, but last season he was the world’s best, whereas this season he has been rinsed time and time again.

I have liked the look of Andersen, in albeit the few occasions I have seen him. You just don’t know if a player like him will do the business for us, that is why a great recruiting team is needed (stop laughing). However, with the pubs being shut the beer mats for Hitchen’s reports will have been at a premium, so what will the ‘January hating recruiting genius’ write on? Our woes will not be solved though by signing the Dane, we need a clear out of the back 4. Poch and Jose both can’t be wrong so if we have to see Aurier, Sanchez and Dier in a Spurs shirt next, expect another DVD’s worth of bloopers! Who knows how a new partnership of Andersen and Vestegaard would fare, but can it be worse than Sanchez/Dier?

Totally agree ,

Anderson has premier league experience , looks like he can pass to a white shirt , organise and defend .
I think he would be an improvement on what we have based on the above skill set might bring the best out of Sanchez/Rodon.

I don’t think we should underestimate premier league experience , attracting the best from Europe might be difficult and a costly risk .
