Despite closing in on a move for Wolves Matt Doherty, Spurs are digging their heels in negotiation with AC Milan over the transfer of Serge Aurier.
The Lilywhites want to sign a new right-back this summer and they are open to selling the Ivorian.
He struggled to get into the Spurs team at the start of last season, but he eventually enjoyed a run of games under Jose Mourinho in the new year.
Nevertheless, more often than not, he has appeared to be the weak link in the Tottenham defence and they want to replace him.
Matt Doherty has emerged as Mourinho’s preferred choice at right-back and Spurs might land him soon as we reported earlier today.
If Doherty signs, Aurier will likely fall down the pecking order again and it makes sense that they sell him to Milan.
However, Daniel Levy will still not allow him to join the Italians without getting the money he thinks the defender is worth.
Sky Sports reports that the Italians have tabled an opening bid for his signature, but it has been rejected by Spurs.
The specific amount of their opening bid hasn’t been made revealed, however, the report claims that Spurs categorically turned it down.
Doherty is one of the most impressive right-backs in the Premier League and his surges forward from that position is so good that he plays as a second striker sometimes.
Aurier could become a forgotten man when the Irish man joins if he isn’t sold.
Ericksen listened to his “hangers on” (“advisors”) and did himself in. those “friends” cost him hundreds of thousands of pounds. Very sad – but Eriksen is the author of his own misfortune . He refused to sign a new contract at a significantly higher wage. Stayed at 40K for 2 years.
Ain’t there?
There is no arguing with your prescient and illuminating opinions.
He was the fkin tool. He still is one
You can’t down tools when you haven’t been given the tools in the first place.
He downed tools. Fk him
The previous season it was quite clear that Eriksen wanted to leave. The main reason being money, of course. He felt he wasn’t being paid a comparable wage to his peers in the team. Levy valued him at circa £130 mill after Coutinho was sold. He was never worth that. Levy valued Toby at £75-80 mill, he couldn’t sell him for that. He valued a crocked Dembele at £35 mill and ended up accepting £11 mill. These sales were going to be used for the recruitment of new players, except they didn’t happen, so instead of using some of the cash on our balance sheet, we didn’t buy anyone for two windows. No wonder Poch looked so miserable. Some of his critics ask why he kept saying he was berry, berry happy, but he could hardly criticise Levy on Sky Sports.
Levy drained out his best (for peanuts wages) and still made a profit on him
I don’t want him gone. What, one right back? Let him and Doherty fight it out
We either have late signings or huge gaps not being filled because a midfield player comes up….hopefully José is pulling him
After all these years he still doesn’t appreciate the damage it does bringing players in late…
It’s in Levy’s DNA, he can’t help himself. He tried it with Eriksen, that went well.
3 weeks……tick tok
This is good business if Levy can make the swap happen…its ok this year getting good squad replacements… a striker is a must, id have Wilson, PL, plays similar to Kane but faster, perfect for José…then I’ll go all out for a world class CB…
It’s funny to hold out for a huge fee when you are signing a cheaper replacement.
I understand Doherty is older but still.
“Manager doesn’t rate ya but I want a 50% bigger fee than the player we are getting in to replace you.”
Hopefully it works.
