Good news and bad news for Tottenham as Jose Mourinho admits Serge Aurier problem

By Bruce Grove -

Serge Aurier isn’t one of the most dependable players in the Tottenham squad and whenever it appears like we have no choice but to use him, it becomes a problem.

Spurs have suffered from injury problems in different positions in their team recently. However, the break in football has helped almost every player become fit for the end of the season.

But it has emerged that Serge Aurier is our only fit right-back, and that could be so until the end of the season.

Football London’s Tottenham correspondent, Alasdair Gold, has confirmed that two other players who can play at right-back, Juan Foyth and Japhet Tanganga are injured and they might not be available for the rest of this season.

This leaves the unreliable Aurier as our only option to play at right-back. That is depressing news, but there is good news.

Gold further reveals that Jose Mourinho has taken advantage of the situation to become creative with his squad.

The Portuguese has revealed that he has been trying Gedson Fernandes and Oliver Skipp in that position in training. He also added that Moussa Sissoko and Toby Alderweireld can deputise as right-backs as well.

Gold tweeted: “Asked Jose Mourinho what he plans to do at right-back with so many games and just Serge Aurier fit in the role. He said it’s a problem but that he’s been working with Oliver Skipp and Gedson in the position during training and that Alderweireld and Sissoko can also play there.”

If Skipp or Gedson can do a job at right-back then that is a huge positive because relying on just Aurier is a disaster waiting to happen.

It’s got to be Toby for sure. Firstly, he has played as RB for Belgium, Second, he’s been persuaded to sign a new contract only to find Jose seeming to prefer a different pairing till now for the CB’s.

Jetson – really he is too flashy to play there. Skipp maybe he has the heart of a lion.

I’d go with Toby or Sissoko, modern wing back is a specialised position, you don’t pick it up in a couple of hours.

Only team that can have a 9 week break declare the team fit then have a position crisis before the first game that will last all of the last games, although not their fault completely #enicout
