Former West Ham striker calls potential fee for Dele Alli ‘ridiculous’

By Eddie Razo -

On the deadline day for the January transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur decided to part ways with midfielder Dele Alli. The 25-year-old has departed for Everton after seven years with the north London club.

The England international was transferred on a performance-based deal last month. However, former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie is confused as to why Spurs would demand up to £40-million to allow Alli to move to Goodison Park.

“That £40 million though, how can Tottenham can ask for that. Why did Everton sanction that? That’s ridiculous. He hasn’t kicked a ball for two years. I guess if he does well enough to hit those targets, then the signing will be worth it,” McAvennie said to Football Insider

“Obviously, it’s a risk, but I think we will see the best of Dele Alli again. He’s needed this move for a long time.”

Everton will need to £10-million when Alli makes 20 appearances for the club, and the other add-ons could make the deal a wealthy one for Tottenham. Nonetheless, this all falls on the shoulder of Alli to find his past form.

McAvennie believes that Everton manager Frank Lampard can be the guy that can get the most out of the midfielder, where others have failed.

Since Mauricio Pochettino departed Tottenham, managers like Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espírito Santo, and Antonio Conte have been unable to help Alli rediscover his past form.

“I think Lampard might be the perfect man to get Alli back to his best. He was one of the best midfielders in the world when he played; he knows what it takes,” McAvennie said.

“If Alli gets going again, there is no doubting he will be a brilliant signing. We all know how good he can be.”

For me he looks like he has passed the point of no return (how do you get your old fizz back after years of downhill).
Still at least we had a few good seasons out of him unlike that other expensive donkey we signed.

Dele thinks he looks cool I suspect. He looks like a reject from a ‘BoysTo Men’ video, I guess he’s born too late to reasonably understand what a total pillock he looks.

Absolute worthless drivel from that guy. We’ll probably only just get the 10M and that will be that.

Thats the whole point you plonker! 😂

The more I hear from this guy the more it becomes obvious that his opinions are of no use, to man or beast…

McAvennie is a twit. One sentence he says the deal is ridiculous, then the next he says it’ll be worth it if Alli hits his targets and that he has the potential to be a brilliant signing. At least he didn’t have a pop at his woolly hat, too.
