Fabrizio Romano’s Big Update On Potential Jan Vertonghen Replacement

By Joe Fish -

Verona defender Marash Kumbulla had been tipped as a possible replacement for Jan Vertonghen at Tottenham, but it looks like he will be staying in Italy even if he does move this summer.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has tweeted today that Inter Milan are leading the race to sign the 20-year-old defender, who Gazzetta Dello Sport, via Football London, had linked to Spurs last month.

However, Romano says there have been no serious offers from England.

I haven’t seen Kumbulla play, so I cannot pass judgment on what sort of player we appear to be missing out on; only to say that if he is being pursued by two of the biggest clubs in Serie A, he’s probably pretty decent.

If the Albania international is taken off the market, it might be back to the drawing board as we try to identify a centre-back to step into Jan’s shoes if he doesn’t sign a contract extension. The London Evening Standard reports that he could see out the season with Spurs before himself moving to Italy.
