Fabrizio Romano reveals details for the failed transfer of Juventus midfielder to Tottenham Hotspur

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur wanted to revamp their midfield with new manager Nuno Espírito Santo taking over and ready to implement his system.

The north London-based club did acquire one midfielder in Pape Matar Sarr, who remains on loan to FC Metz.

However, they didn’t want to stop there. One name linked to the Premier League side this past summer was Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie.

Managing Director of Football Fabio Paratici is familiar with the 23-year-old, so it didn’t come as a surprise that there was interest from Tottenham. Nonetheless, no deal ever occurred.

According to Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano, who suggested on his Twitch channel (via The Boot Room), Tottenham failed to land McKennie due to their proposal.

Romano adds that the English club only offered a loan deal for the American; meanwhile, Juventus FC sought a permanent sale of €30 million for McKennie.

Still, with some of the ongoing issues that McKennie has dealt with, such as breaking COVID-19 protocol, perhaps this target could be one Tottenham decides to scratch as they’ll revisit their search for a midfielder.
