Expect the expected and unexpected from Tottenham in the January transfer window

By Bruce Grove -

If I had to place a bet this January about what sort of transfer business Tottenham would conduct I would back departures over any incomings.

The two most likely scenarios, in my opinion, are Danny Rose and Dele Alli to depart in some manner, a loan or permanent transfer.

There may well be some minor squad members sent out on loan but in terms of high profile names, those two are the ones that I reckon will grab all the headlines.

Does that mean it is highly unlikely that Tottenham will splash the cash on a big name recruit next month?

A lot will depend on opportunity, that is where Daniel Levy excels, an opportunity out of the blue pops up and in he pops to secure a bargain, or at least cement his reputation as a tough negotiator, whether he actually signs someone or not.

Jose Mourinho will surely have a wishlist and I suspect that Levy will look to accommodate him as best as he can but the current climate means that it will be tougher than usual to get a deal done in January.

All the signs are there that Spurs will be fairly quiet next month but do not be surprised if a Milan Skriniar or Isco is all of a sudden announced, that would be typical of Tottenham and Levy as well.

A club full of contradictions that no longer surprises anyone if they spend no money for multiple transfer windows or if they bring back a former superstar and hire the highest-profile manager in the world.

So yes, expect both the expected and unexpected from Tottenham next month because they are capable of both and at the same time, such is the enigma of Tottenham Hotspur FC.

I don’t want to get involved in a bun fight.
I just dont understand why a Jose team cannot hold on to a 1-0 lead.
88th minute the job is done ffs.

This is true Tapps, we have been affected financially by COVID 19 more than any of the other top teams, due to the revenue streams that were lined up from all the non-footballing events, both scheduled and in the pipeline, for the new stadium.

I have clothes with 20/20 vision. It’s you that can’t see. What else is there to spend the money on? It’s about investing in the squad now ready for ENIC to sell up. They ain’t selling though

How realistic was the league this season? A League Cup or a Europa League would be a measure of success and maybe the catalyst for bigger and better things. From memory we have reached 4 League Cup finals, 4 FA Cup semis and the Champions League Final under ENIC’s stewardship. That has translated into very little success and has to change. Mourinho probably wont be here past the end of next season but if he can instill a winning mentality at the club he will have been a success irrespective of the style of football.

Sounds like one of those guys who love to vent about a loss, while finding the negatives in a win. If you are to believe most of the experts. Liverpool, Man City, Man U, chelsea, are all supposed to be ahead of the Spurs, if they are 5th or 6th that proves the experts right. I will take their take ahead of some guy ranting on blogs. However, we are not playing up to our potentials on the offensive end. I think we need Winks with the one thing he does best, hold on to the ball, ensuring we can put 2 passes together by demanding the ball from the back. Is Winks better defensively than Sissoko, no, but we do not need 2 grinders with both not being able to control the game.

So…Leicester (poor manager according to all on here when we talked about getting him) 3 points ahead of us. United, poor manager, poor season, 2 points in front with game in hand after weekend. Everton, relegation fodder, 1 point ahead. Villa were verge of bankruptcy same points but 2 games in hand after weekend. Chelsea (inexperienced manager, poor squad) saints (relegation fodder) same points as us. We have “serial winner” with a squad that needed no improvement (his words), highest paid player in the PL, best strike partnership of the season… Yet barely registering shots, and arguably most boring side in the league to watch. Anything less than an emphatic win tomorrow and surely questions need answering of Jose? I can’t see us winning even the league cup let alone the league. I would say the league is beyond is now.

Danny Rose leaving? The guy who doesn’t even have a squad number and has been exiled from the rest of the club, training alone or with the kids? Bold prediction there Bruce, really going out on the limb.
