Ex-Aston Villa forward states which players Tottenham need to offload

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur wants to improve its squad this January as it hopes to make additions and sell off players who don’t have a future in north London. Over the next couple of weeks, various names will surface either through reports or opinions on which players Spurs has to offload.

Former Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor spoke to Football Insider, where he stated three players that Tottenham needs to get rid of come January. Spurs began revamping its central defense, but Agbonlahor says the turnover needs to continue.

“I just don’t think Rodon is good enough, to be honest. Eric Dier, I don’t think is good enough; Sanchez is not good enough. Spurs haven’t improved their center-halve since Toby Alderweireld, and Jan Vertonghen were there. They were good center-halves; they were strong,” Agbonlahor said.

“The center-halves they have there are not good enough. I’m sure Conte, who bases his teams on their defense, will want to fix that problem by bringing in some center-halves.”

Over the summer, Tottenham began injecting some youth into the central defense when they brought in Cristian Romero. The Argentine defender was the first building block in replacing veteran central defenders Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.

Spurs hope to pair with another central defender to be their duo for the coming years, but first, it seems as though they’ll need to clear out defenders who don’t have a place in the Antonio Conte era.

Shoot the message not the messenger, what is your opinion about those players he mentioned instead of attacking him.

I see your angle.. But it’s still a competitive trophy, it’s still European midweek football with some good teams coming down from the ropey like Napoli… I would rather be in it than not in it. Would rather win it, than not win it… Spurs fans think they’re too good for the conference league is rather humorous.. We’ve been getting beaten and embarrassed by so called farmer teams.

No transfermarkt valued them.. Pretty much as accurate as you can get. Clubs, scouts and agents often use transfermarkt.

Sell Davies 100 percent.. He’s peaked.. He’s not a great defender, he’s not great going forward. Give Conte one summer transfer window and Davies won’t be starting. Maybe a squad player but I barely trust him for the B team.

No, not all, but this one is. Prem, FA Cup even league cup all fine, why? Because everyone enters them and the most deserving will win it – up to each club how seriously they take them.

This one, by contrast has (at a guess) not even been entered by 80 or so of Europe’s “better” teams and so has absolutely no value as a competition IMO.

When you talk about players being useless in the media,u need to back it up with past glory, Gabby was a below average striker who had less goals then a midfielder. He shouldnt be opening his mouth. I listen to him often and he is one of the least talented on talksport. A few of the listens have made it known that he wasnt that good. We can talk about those players not being good enough on here because we are spurs supporters and Mr H Has offered us that opportunity by having this blog

If we’d have taken it seriously , a 0-3 loss wouldn’t have mattered

Sell Davies? He’s been very good under Conte on the left of the back 3. Otherwise agree, though Bergwijn to go pronto and not sure about Rodon either.

Is Levy valuing them by any chance?

No he didn’t.. After the covid outbreak we offered to play a weaker team behind closed doors. Alot of our kids playing was the plan I expect.. But Rennes said no… Now it looks like we get a forfeit, so we will get a 0-3 loss.. We are third in the table so this loss will knock us out. Rennes wanted us out because they want to win the comp… Conte wanted to win it, this is why he was so upset and emotional in his interview on zoom.. Stop dissing all the cups my man, its all we have won in the last 60 years.. I’ll take any competitive cup at the minute. There’s nothing wrong with them. Of course winning the Prem and the CL are the big ones at the top, but this doesn’t mean all the others are worthless.

After mentioning all the players not good enough in my post below, it astonishes me that Spurs on transfermarkt are still in the top ten richest clubs in the world based on PLAYERS VALUE!…. City is worth the most. PSG are in second not far behind. United, Chelsea, Liverpool are the English teams above us… We are 9th in the world.. Our squad is worth more than Barcelona, Juventus, and Arsenal..

Yeah right, another ex pro allowed to voice his opinion! Damn this country of democracy and free speech.. Perhaps you should try moving to China or North Korea where they won’t allow this… I agree with Gabbers 2 out of 3 anyway I’d keep Roden, sell Sanchez and Dier. Also look to sell Davies and Doherty. Also sell Winks, Ndombele, LoCelso, Dele.. Also if Gollini and Bergwjn can’t step it up then looking to sell them too…. A problem is the homegrown rule because 4 of those players count as homegrown and we are on the brink there, so they would have to be replaced with similar.

Deserve yes but not for on pitch reasons.
It’s going to be a difficult issue with Uefa to square as if we are out due to the ethics committee because of covid send closed down facilities it could be leveraged in future super league discussions

No, Radon is a gas that can kill you, Rodon is a player who will prove himself a decent acquisition for us.

His ramblings offer nothing of any significance or relevance, and there are far too many bang average ex-players doing it. The game also suffers from too many wet behind the ears reporters inventing stories in order to gain clicks, it’s weak and lazy, sports journalism especially football is full of this nonsense .

Well, I imagine that most, if not all, who post on here have a view on Radon, so I’ m not sue why an ex-player having a view should be such a mystery.

Because most of the time they talk out of their backsides.
That pairing of Toby & Jan weren’t just good.
And how the fook does he have an opinion on Rodon. He is nothing to do with Spurs just jog on.

I hope they are, it’s likely Levy agreed to it so Conte can focus on top 4, which is clearly the main objective.

Yeah, but there are agendas and favouritism from the people that make these decisions. Did we deserve to be part of a Super League breakaway?

I was thinking the same thing – they might want a Conte-led THFC in there, but it’s difficult to see how they’d let us through, not to mention it would be absolutely undeserved.

There’s that and I would not want to see the team that managed to get spanked by NS Mura go through with the benefit of a forfeited game. Vitesse should be allowed through.

Talking about yourself? And why shouldn’t ex-players be allowed to voice an opinion and make money for it if there’s someone willing to pay?

Yet another ex-player who is allowed to voice an opinion, he should get a proper job and do something worthwhile with his life.

Yes but you could argue it’s misfortune, how is it going to look if they punish teams for having a Covid outbreak?

I still think that they’ll want a club of our profile to go through, might be wrong but we’ll see. It’s a sh*t competition anyway, I’d prefer to be out of it. Concentrate on domestic form.

Did Agbonlahor form his opinions after reading the comments on this blog. They certainly have a familiar ring about them.Isn’t punditry wonderfully rewarding.

Precedent would suggest that since we were the club that couldn’t fulfil the fixture, we might be on the end of a 3-0 loss (forfeiting the game).

Looks like the Rennes game won’t go ahead at all, UEFA will decide who goes through. Wie’ll be let through, don’t worry about that.

Agbonlahor might be a perfectly nice bloke, but I have no interest in what he has to say about goings-on at Spurs.
