Dear Mr. Levy, In one year your Spurs squad has dropped €200M+ in value…

The boffins at CIES Football Observatory have released their latest list of the most valuable squads in Europe, with Tottenham ranking ninth.

This is a substantial drop from fourth at this time last year and highlights the literal cost of our 18-month slide back into Premier League mediocrity.

CIES calculates squad values by adding the aggregate transfer value of the top 20 playing assets at each club. In March 2019, we ranked behind only Barcelona, Liverpool and Manchester City with an estimated squad value of over €1bn (£930m), which has plummeted to €787m (£736m) in only a year.

There are several causes of this, mainly the loss of Christian Eriksen, an ageing defensive unit and the depreciation of the likes of Dele Alli, Eric Dier, and Davinson Sanchez, who, along with our departed Dane, were all valued at over €90m (£84m) by CIES in their June 2018 newsletter.

We’d be lucky to get €90m for the lot of them now.

Dele would have apparently commanded a price of €171m (£160m) at his peak, which, even for a stubborn defender of his talents and importance to the team, does make you question the credibility of the CIES algorithm.

Even Harry Kane has gone from an estimated value of €201.2m (£188m) to €150.5m (£140m), as of January 2020 – a figure that could well be tested this summer.

And with Kane’s future seemingly uncertain, the squad value is only going to drop further upon his potential departure, all while the club value rises.

You don’t need an algorithm to work out that isn’t right.

Feeling a little bit happy this arvo, ahead of the weekend. Feel sorry for you guys with no football. I’ll still be able to watch the AFL. If you’re really desperate for football, the A-league is still going 🤣

Urban foxes here in London are fat. They’re gonna have to be double cunning soon to keep it that way. Saw one walking down west green rd the other DAY with a piece of chicken in its mouth, then he just disappeared. How do they do that

I wonder if in this time of pending doom&gloom the Misery merchants on here will find it in themselves to post some positive uplifting stuff occasionally. Everyone else is making an effort. “Push out your chests and lift your heads and spirits.

Levy has a plan so cunning that you could pin a tail on it and call it a fox.

And it has nothing to do with football.

Another baffling aspect to ‘Levynomics’ where neglecting the football team actually costs you more money than it being well maintained and well run.

I have no idea what’s happening with this club at the moment, if there is some clever ‘master plan’ in the pipeline, then I’m facked if I can work out what it is.

Of course some people are more clever than the likes of me, people like Micky Hazard who supposedly think everything is right on track on the journey to actually challenging for the big prizes. Garbage…

ENIC OUT.
