Could Southampton’s Financial Troubles Open Door For Spurs To Nab Top Striker?

By Joe Fish -

Looking around the Premier League, while maintaining a sense of realism, there is perhaps no striker I’d rather see at Tottenham than Danny Ings.

Apart from perhaps, Raul Jimenez, that glorious specimen of a footballer.

But anyway…

We first tried to sign Ings in 2015 when he chose Liverpool upon leaving Burnley, as The Guardian details, and the Daily Star reported in January that Jose Mourinho was keen on the Southampton striker, back to his best after years of injury hell, as cover and competition for Harry Kane.

After a 15-goal season for the Saints, you’d have thought the 27-year-old would be out of our financial reach, even more so now we face failure to qualify for the Champions League, rising stadium debts and Covid-19 losses.

But the Daily Star reports that Southampton has major financial problems of their own and that Ings could be one of several assets put in the shop window to help the club raise up to £100m in player sales this summer.

Transfermarkt.com values Ings at £15.75 m. If he was available for anything like that figure, even £10m more, then Daniel Levy should be all over him.

Ollie Watkins of Brentford 24 years old,22 goals this season, English and listed around £10m. Danny Ings is suited at Southampton were he plays every week something he won’t be doing at Spurs.
