Bit part Tottenham player does not want to leave this summer despite clubs circling

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham will be looking to move on some of their old players in this transfer window as Jose Mourinho looks to get his team in shape for the new season, but one player that might remain is Erik Lamela.

The Lilywhites have already made three signings in this transfer window, more players are expected to come through the door and there should be some outgoings too.

Ideally, a player like Lamela, that has struggled for consistency for much of his time at the club, should be looking to pack his bags and leave, but the Argentinean seems to be enjoying his stay in London so well that he doesn’t want to leave.

Fabrizio Romano was speaking about the Argentinean’s future recently and he claimed that teams from Italy are interested in taking him back to where Tottenham signed him from AS Roma, but the player appears to be happy at Spurs and that he is confident of making an impact at the club in the coming campaign.

Fabrizio Romano spoke to the Last Word on Spurs.

“For Lamela there has been some contact from Italian clubs but the player is happy at Tottenham,” Romano said. “He believes that next season he can do something good.”

Fair enough, at least Lamela is showing the right attitude.

He seems like a Mourinho type player to me, works hard and has a hard edge to his game. For me he links play on the break about as well as anyone in the squad. Decent pace, positional versatility, high technical ability – so long as it’s on his left foot.

No way I’d sell him, he’s the kind of player you need in a squad when you’ve got to play an absurd number of matches, with the frequency this season will require. The schedule is crazy. Cups, off the bench, filling in for injured first xi, Lamela’s a useful player to have around, in the same way someone like James Milner is in his squad. If you don’t expect him to become a world class breakthrough player and see him as someone who does a job, he’s worth keeping.

It is a priority right now. I’ve just given Fulham Ben Davies. I owed Scotty p a favour🌚

We were told Grimaldo, would cost £30m from Benfica I would be happy with Reguilon for £23m although left back doesn’t seem a priority right now.No sign of any offers for Foyth yet it’s all gone a bit quite on that front.

Lamela always seems ( when he’s not injured) to be just about to deliver on the promise he showed as a very young player in Italy and for a short while when he first came to Spurs. Alas it’s like the dance of the seven veils, it’s all a tease, just when you think you’re getting an eyeful he dances off stage. I’ve had enough of Erik’s act time to try it out on a new audience.

Like the player, he can take his place alongside Dier, Alli and a few others in the last chance season saloon
