Steven Bergwijn has admitted that it would be “very bad” if Tottenham did not qualify for Europe next season.
We resume our Premier League campaign against Manchester United on Friday, seven points adrift of the top four in a congested European battle which is complicated by Manchester City’s impending suspension.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the January signing from PSV Eindhoven said that Spurs are determined to stay in the Champions League, but can’t afford to miss out on the Europa League as a minimum.

The importance of this United game cannot be stressed enough. Win and we’re right in the top-four hunt. Lose and we might even have Thursday nights free next season.

We’ve got it in us. COYS yes🌚
🤞🙌COYS🙌
Our squad is easily strong enough for these last 9 remaining games. I’m not worried at all. This squad ain’t strong enough for a full season though. For what’s left we’ll be more than OK. Strong. There’s a good bunch here now for the last 9
Taking kids to the ground is special, especially the evening games. I wish I had the same belief in our squad than you, but we’ve been sadly lacking this season and not performed well for two seasons. At a minimum we need one centre half to replace Jan, a full back for each side, a defensive midfielder and a striker. In this climate, we might get 3 at best. We won’t be capable of competing on four fronts so something has to give. Not playing a minimum of 8/10 Europa fixtures for one season might help the recovery. Short term pain for a long term gain. Tomorrow we’ll see how good we are. Arsenal fans were expecting a lot more than what was served on Wednesday. When you have sideshow Bob though on the field only bad things happen! Leno and poor finishing stopped it becoming embarrassing before half time and the gulf in quality was noticeable.
We do have the squad to cope. European football or any football for me in Tottenham can never be an “irrelevant side show” Its an evening out with friends and my grandson (staying up late) living life. Yes the extra revenue is good for the money people. Entertainment on my doorstep is the name of the game for me. As many home games as possible please. As many events as possible and other sports too please. Thank you. PS. FCK poch. Poch is the past. The past is where it is and I can’t go back there live
If we have the squad to cope bring it on, but if EPL games are affected by the Europa League it becomes an irrelevant sideshow, like it did under Poch. The only good that would come is extra revenue from stadium income, but when are fans going to be allowed back?
I want to go watch as much football as I can at the new lane. Don’t care what competition its in. Football in Tottenham please. You’re missing the point brother. tottentertainmentham
Bill Nich advocated the need for Spurs to be in Europe, but this was when the
competitions had less games and earlier rounds were gimmes. The Ch Lg, which is
neither a league or for champions put paid to the Cup Winners Cup and the UEFA Cup
being taken seriously, when I loved them (old school Midweek Sports Special stuff).
The EPL devalued both the League and FA Cup in a similar way. Back in the 60s, 70s
and 80s the FA Cup was the biggest date on the footballing calendar. Not anymore,
despite the BBC trying its best. The Europa League is an ultra marathon where clubs
get little financial incentive to play. To me it is a hinderance and will only hurt our
league form next season. If we can’t get in the Ch Lg I would be happy to let European
football go for one year so we can get our house in order.
