“Back this man” These Tottenham fans are prepared to give Nuno Espírito Santo a chance

By Bruce Grove -

Finally, Tottenham has named a new manager two months after Jose Mourinho was relieved of his duties.

It has been an embarrassing and agonising period for the club, hopefully, that is all behind us now and we can move forward into a new more successful era than what has gone before.

Nuno Espirito Santo was officially unveiled by Spurs yesterday and as expected, the announcement was not universally welcomed.

In fact, it is probably fair to say that there has been a very mixed response to the hiring of the former Wolves manager.

I could easily have curated a selection of the negative reactions, which sadly also included some vile mutterings from the brain dead but what is the point of starting off being all negative and having a go without even seeing how Nuno does?

So, I have collated a few of the more positive responses and leave the doom and gloom merchants for another time.

What has his nationality got to do with it when comparing the two

It could be me but I read it as don’t support/ fund the club while Levy/ Enic are in place, which would make your Nuno comment irrelevant.

Thoroughly agree with your sentiments, mate, though we mustn’t pass ultimate judgement on Nuno until he’s had some time in the job. Sadly, though, I can’t see it ending happily for anyone in this poison chalice of a job.

Nuno’s not too bad a manager, I think, but seems ironic that we have just appointed another Portuguese manager, having just got rid of the most famous and most conspicuously successful manager ever from that country. Oh well, Spurs have their very own way of doing things, don’t they? It’ll be a major surprise if he’s still with us in three years time.

GUEST OBITUARY.

The two most common declarations on the new appointment in reverse order: The high pitched defensive voice pleading…”well I think it’s a good appointment….?” And the horrifying “He got Wolves out of the championship”.

So this is the standard? When Levy annhilated the clubs history and essence and reduced WHL to rubble in the name of the myth of elite competition. Yes this is the standard.
Not sure why I have to remind some, but….this(ex)club ain’t in the championship, I’m sure they will be soon and Nuno could have the chance to show his expertise in that area.
Maybe Neil Warnock would have been a better option?

O Hara says he’s “excited”(shill much?) , Levy says he thinks Nuno can do something special…..with what?? The same bunch that Jose failed to turn into anything…..with no Kane. Do you think Harry Kane is looking at this appointment thinking, ‘ooooh, I might stick around’ . $#@% NO.

At this point there’s no justification for any of it, including support.
There’s always the, ‘just get behind the new fella and support the team’ line, but now, if anyone is going to give these parasites their energy or cash to watch this circus they are actively funding the demise of THFC.
It’s not supporting the club. It’s not the club anymore.
its tantamount to paying the kidnappers after they’ve killed your family.

After the facilities, stadium hype, home of Champions League football, biggest club shop in Europe Bolox we have……”he got Wolves out of the Championship.

An NFL/events arena that doubles up as a vaccination centre.

SEND NO FLOWERS.

Levy won’t water them.

Sounds a bit like something a priest would chant at an exorcism, which in our case I think is very apt!

I wondered that myself. Surely he must to a certain extent, but perhaps he now realises that if he fails then the world of football will excuse him now that Levy’s true character is outed. I expect the money helps too.

I think every fan will back Nuno, we all know it’s the owners who have got our great club in this predicament. From what I saw of his interview on Spurs TV Nuno comes across as a genuine guy. I don’t trust Levy one bit, and by him only giving a 2 year contract I suspect Levy is waiting for Poch to become available. If we can get rid of the dead wood (we all know who these are) and buy some quality replacements (yes I know I’m dreaming) then we could have a half decent season.

Whilst I am happy to give quiet respectful Nuno a chance does he actually realise the impossible task at hand?!!

Nuno Espiritu Santo – it sounds like a prayer, which in truth is what we need!

Not the worst choice, or so we are led to believe and he has EPL experience which is a must, especially when Paratici doesn’t. He can at least try to set things up knowing what he’s up against (externally at least) and he might be able to at least advise on players who may have the characteristics to make it in the Premiere League. He did well with a few at Wolves.

Happy to give him a fair go just hope Levy does!

I think he comes across well as a bloke. Seems down to earth and honest about things. Ok, he’s singing off the company hymn sheet when it comes to the academy stuff etc but he has to do that, can’t blame him for that. If he wasn’t willing to go along with some of that then why take the job?

You have to give anyone a chance. Not his fault that Levy is a clown. None of our proper managers have been the problem anyway, it’s always been Levy not backing them. If Nuno is backed then I believe he can do a reasonable job, if he isn’t then it will be deja vous as it all happens again. One thing for sure nobody is going to believe the manager is at fault ever again at this club, so Levy better remember that when he next tries to pull the trigger – he’s called “wolf” too many times. I’m relieved that Mason is being replaced as much as anything else so won’t be able to just pick his mates.

I agree give the guy a chance and direct all your frustrations at Levy and ENIC. He and Paratici are just the latest stooges put in place to front up ENIC’s nefarious operation.

Good luck to him, boy is he going to need it…

Not my first choice, or my second … but he’s a reasonable manager and we can expect a reasonable performance from the team from him. He might even surprise us and win a cup or reach top four.

Levy has to allow Nuno to bring in 2-3 players which he (Nuno) is happy with (i.e. not just ‘Levy Lidl bargains’)… and that’s IF Kane is not sold.

If Kane is sold we should expect and Nuno should be given, a far more extensive chance to refresh the squad. It’s obvious we’re going to need more than one decent defender brought in (but he might get a tune out of Doherty)
