AC Milan interest in Serge Aurier goes back to last year and they remain keen

By Bruce Grove -

It seems that AC Milan’s interest in Tottenham right-back Serge Aurier is a lot stronger than first thought.

The Sun is reporting that the Italian giants spoke with the players’ agent last year (no exact time date was given) and this was confirmed by the clubs’ technical director Paolo Maldini, who is quoted as saying.

“We spoke to his agent last year.

“We think about ending the season well, then in these three weeks we have to operate on the market.”

On top of that, the Sun also reports that respected Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano is also reporting that Aurier is Milan’s main right-back target.

So, putting the fact that it is the Sun to one side we have Maldini confirming Milan’s interest and Romano also confirming it.

That really does lead one to believe that Aurier could easily be on his way to Italy this summer, however, the price tag appears to be an issue with Daniel Levy wanting £22 million and the Italian giants only wanting to shell out £12 million.

I suspect that a compromise will be reached, I accept that Daniel Levy rarely backs down but these are strange times and while I doubt he will agree to £12 million, he just may agree to a figure in the middle.

The bottom line, however, is that the 27-year-old looks very likely to have played his last game for Tottenham.

He played in goal in a testimonial for one of our then players at Haringey borough FC. (Cant remember whos) anyway he came out of goal in the second for a bit, scored a hatrick then went back in🌚 real talk

KWP fee has been agreed with Saints… So Aurier is the only right back we have. We now need someone to push him for a place… Its all very well selling first team and squad players, but replacing them seems to be a problem… If Aurier is sold now then we need two right backs.

Naturally gifted Greaves was an imperious striker reflected by his volume of goals for Spurs.
Scoring what was it 49 goals for Spurs in 1987 Clive Allen was the supreme poacher!

I have numerous treasured moments at WHL, tops probably seeing Jimmy Greaves.
– I was there when we beat Wolves on aggregate to win the EUEFA Cup in 1971 or 2 was it.
Away when we beat Anderlecht
Saw us beat Torina to win the Anglo Italian cup in front of 30,000 ish. We may laugh but I still count it as a trophy.
First trophy I saw us win beating Chelsea 2-1 to win the FA Cup final 2-1.

It was a measure of the man / goal keeping exploits that he once received a standing ovation from the Kop at Anfield!

Bosnich did not exactly endear himself to the natives for that “shocking salute” at WHL and for crudely cleaning out Klinsmann when put through at Villa Park. How on earth Bosnich was shown a red is a mystery!

Having supported Spurs since the 60s we had 2 consistently good full backs in those days namely Joe Kinnear and Cyril Knowles respectively!

The quicker Aurier is sold the better for all concerned putting me out of my misery as said keep hearing those immortal TV commentator words “Aurier gets into good attacking positions but let down by his final delivery” – or words to this effect. Sadly Ben Davies, who has badly regressed since his Swansea days is no better, but he is dependable and a likeable good squad utility member, called to play centre half in an emergency where he looks more comfortable in that position.
